Rising Stars: Meet Ashley McDonald

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley McDonald.

Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. GLO.BOWL started as a weekend hobby, a creative outlet to ground me after spending weeks working on the road. Having always been passionate about plants and nature, I started creating my concrete planters to brighten up my home space using found objects, recycled materials, and a lot of color. I aim to create a vessel that is a one-of-a-kind piece of affordable living art.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship, more specifically solo entrepreneurship, is an absolute winding road. As I look back at the events I’ve participated in, businesses I’ve collaborated with, and artists I’ve met, no two days are the same. It is this type of constant learning curve that makes the climb that much sweeter.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I first started creating my planters, I was highly influenced by popular trends and special requests in order to break into the market. It took many failed processes, broken tools, and even a tear or two to really appreciate the colorful and marbled look I have developed. To this day, I continue to push my own creative limits and try new styles and color combinations that are a reflection of what brings me joy.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I’m lucky in that my younger sister is one of my favorite people both now and when we were little. From making forts, playing catch to constant movie nights, our childhood was very full and very Kansas.
