Rising Stars: Meet Ashley Lutz, Alyissa Johnson, Abbey Kobylinski, Annie Austen of Zona Rosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lutz, Alyissa Johnson, Abbey Kobylinski, Annie Austen.

Hi Ashley Lutz, Alyissa Johnson, Abbey Kobylinski, Annie Austen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The four of us are small business owners and makers who met while doing markets around Kansas City. We kept seeing how much talent was out there and how hard it could be to find a space that felt truly supportive. We wanted to build a different kind of market with community at the center. A place where small businesses can thrive, collaborate, and feel encouraged. Indoorsy grew out of that shared vision and it has become something really special for all of us.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely had its challenges. All four of us are juggling our own small businesses along with full time jobs, so finding the time and energy to build something new has not always been easy. We had to learn on the fly, from managing vendors to securing spaces to handling all the behind the scenes details that make a market feel warm and organized.

There were plenty of late nights and moments where we were stretched thin, but the community we are creating has made every bit of it worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Indoorsy is a cozy, community driven pop up market created by four makers who wanted to build a different kind of shopping experience in Kansas City. We focus on bringing together local small businesses in a space that feels welcoming, supportive, and fun. Our goal is to create events where makers feel celebrated and shoppers can discover unique products they won’t find anywhere else.

We’re known for our themed markets, our attention to detail, and the way we highlight each vendor’s personality and craft. We put a lot of care into the overall experience, from the vibe and decor to how we communicate with vendors to the way we make shoppers feel when they walk in. What sets us apart is that community truly comes first. We are makers ourselves, so we understand how important it is to feel seen and supported.

Brand wise, we’re most proud of the environment we’ve created. People often tell us it feels warm, inclusive, and thoughtfully curated, which is exactly what we hoped for. For readers who are new to Indoorsy, we want them to know that our markets are more than a place to shop. They are a gathering spot for creativity, connection, and Kansas City talent. Whether you are a longtime maker or someone just starting out, we want you to feel welcome.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
It’s always hard to predict exactly where the industry will go in the next decade, but one thing feels certain. No matter how much time passes or how trends shift, people will always crave community, connection, and the kind of meaning that comes from supporting handmade work. That is the heart of what we do, and we don’t see that changing.

As Indoorsy grows, we’re excited to build on that foundation. We’re exploring smaller and more focused pop ups, workshops and classes taught by our makers, and expanding to new neighborhoods in Kansas City. We’re even dreaming about taking things outside with seasonal “Outdoorsy” markets. For us, the future isn’t about chasing the newest trend. It’s about continuing to create spaces where creativity and community can thrive.
