Rising Stars: Meet Anne Thorne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Thorne.

Hi Anne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began doing flowers for weddings a few years ago when a friend asked if I’d do them for her wedding. It’s something I’d been wanting to start doing so I was glad to have the opportunity and I just fell in love with it. The business has grown organically by word of mouth and through Instagram where I share all my work. Plants and flowers have always been a part of my life. I studied horticulture in college and worked in a greenhouse, so this step, though much later in life, felt natural and I love the flexibility and being able to be creative every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has definitely been a learning curve. While the floral and creative parts of this are more comfortable for me, the business side is new and I’m learning as I go. There are so many resources though and I’ve found that if you have a question you can always find an answer!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and event florist and I gravitate toward and specialize in wearables. I really love to get creative and think outside the box and appreciate clients who would like to try something out of the ordinary. I’m never happier than when I have flowers piled on my head or when I’m piling them on someone else’s! I also offer floral tattoos, real flowers that you can wear anywhere on the skin or clothing. They’re unique and beautiful. It’s thrilling the way someone’s face lights up when they see their flowers for the first time and the way you can tell someone feels while wearing them. I love that! I know that feeling because I feel it too, every time.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
As of now, I work exclusively from my home but would love to have a little shop/workspace in the future for selling bouquets and doing workshops. When the time is right that will be my next step.
