Rising Stars: Meet Angie Trewatha

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Angie Trewatha.

Angie Trewatha

Hi Angie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in the South Bay area of California, where there is a laid-back vibe in fashion that still resonates in how I dress today.

When I moved to Kansas City, clothing was not as available as it is now. I wore many pieces from the thrift store, putting my spin on the clothing and mixing it with pieces my mom purchased from the sale rack at Macy’s. Today, I still adopt the laid-back style into my wardrobe, but I gravitate to a more casual, modern style. Chic style.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a plus-size woman comes with obstacles. I don’t dwell on the negativity.

I look past the comments on my socials and focus on the good and inspiration I provide for people who look like me. I don’t subscribe to what a body should be expected to look like. If you are going to put yourself out there, you had better be ready for the haters! I love the haters, too.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
By trade, I work in the medical field as a Coding Educator. My brain thinks very methodically and analytically. My job is like a huge puzzle, with missing pieces that constantly have to be filled in and completed. I love the detective side of my job!

Anywhere I have ever worked, I am always complimented for the way I dress and seem to attract people who also have a love of style and for the fashion industry- I call it a “talking shop,” and I live for these conversations!

What sets me apart is how my love of fashion as a plus-size woman shows through. I do not allow myself to be held back by what some say I should wear. I wear what I want, and I wear it well! My whole reason for sharing this part of my life is to show others shaped like me that you can look chic, trendy, classic, and put together! Life is short. Just wear it!

How do you think about luck?
Timing is what has been on my side. I would not have been ready to put myself out there a few years ago. I do wish that I had started all this when I was a little younger, but my mindset wasn’t ready.

I just decided a couple of years ago I would just get on with it already! What was I waiting for? I kept saying to myself if I didn’t do this, I would never know. I know this sounds cliche, but it’s true. You won’t ever know if you don’t try!
