Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexzis Thomson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all began with an ambitious vegetable garden and my determination to grow “everything” in 2024. After building our home on acreage, we envisioned creating the ultimate family garden—a place where we could teach our son the rewards of hard work and the satisfaction of growing our own food, while enjoying peaceful evenings tending the plants together.
Then came a pivotal conversation. A colleague mentioned someone they knew who was a flower farmer, and I experienced one of those rare moments of clarity—something simply clicked into place. I felt compelled to add flowers alongside our vegetables and promptly ordered a variety of cut flower seeds, keeping my expectations modest. Little did I know this was the beginning of an obsession…
To my delight, everything flourished. Behind our vegetable beds emerged a charming cutting garden that caught attention when I shared photos online. People began requesting bouquets, and I discovered profound joy in creating arrangements that brightened people’s days. Beyond the satisfaction of sharing beauty with others, I found unexpected therapy in the garden—connecting with nature became a form of meditation I hadn’t realized I needed. Those quiet moments among the blooms offered a healing presence in my life.
2024 transformed into a year of intensive learning. I went down the rabbit hole, immersing myself in everything flower-related. It became something I ate, slept, and dreamt about. I enrolled in specialized courses, studied the intricate details of every single variety I was growing, and built relationships with experienced flower farming mentors who shared their wisdom. What began as curiosity had blossomed into passion. And here we are! Wyld Heart Flower Farm was started with a heart that was searching for more. A heart that knew she was destined to help spread joy and happiness to those around her.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m still in the early stages of this journey! Besides battling some garden pests, I haven’t faced major challenges yet. While I anticipate growing pains in the first few years, I’m quite happy with my progress so far.
My biggest learning curve will be the business and marketing aspects. I’ve never considered myself a natural “sales” person – authenticity is important to me, and I want to avoid coming across as pushy. I believe in letting the quality of what I grow speak for itself. Rather than seeing myself as someone trying to sell you something, I see my role as sharing something I’ve carefully cultivated that might bring a bit of joy to your life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I cultivate a variety of specialty flowers for customizable subscriptions (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly), weddings, and special events—and I also craft unique resin jewelry! Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m constantly in motion. Creativity and productive energy have always been central to who I am.
A core mission of my flower subscription service is uplifting other small businesses in our community. I’ve established partnerships with local shops in nearby towns to serve as convenient pickup locations for my floral arrangements. This approach not only makes our flowers more accessible and enjoyable for customers but creates a network of mutual support. My hope is that these collaborations increase visibility for these small businesses while they help introduce our flowers to new audiences. In today’s economy, nothing matters more than supporting local enterprises. When we invest in each other’s success, our entire community thrives!
Stepping outside my comfort zone has been a big part of this journey. In early April, I left my corporate job of 10 years as a graphic designer to pursue this dream full-time. I never imagined I’d be running my own business, but here I am—and I couldn’t be more excited. Being out in nature, getting my hands dirty, and helping something beautiful grow has been incredibly fulfilling.
At the end of the day, I think what truly sets me apart is… me. More and more people are entering the flower farming world, and their work is stunning. But I believe my personality shines through everything I do—and those who connect with that will see it reflected in my flowers and designs.
What matters most to you?
I’d say my happiness is a big part of what drives me. It was one of the main reasons I left my previous job—I reached a point where I no longer felt a sense of purpose. As I moved up the ladder, my creativity started to feel stifled, and deep down, I knew I was ready to leave the desk job behind.
My family is also incredibly important to me. I want to be present as my son grows up, and having the flexibility to be there when he needs me means everything. This path gives me the freedom to prioritize both my passion and the people I love most.
