Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Miller.
Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
This all started when I realized that I was dissatisfied and stagnant with my day job, and I began thinking about what made me happy—self-care days (including lash and nail appointments) made me feel brand new and fabulous. I could bring that joy to others- while making money on the side. As technology likes to do, an advertisement for an investment lash course came across my feed. I jumped on the opportunity to gain a new skill and embark on a new journey. After my first few clients, I discovered that their smiles after my service outweighed the money I made.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No lol. Since I’ve only started in April 2023, it’s hard to attract new clients who will trust a newbie with their lashes. But, I have been overcoming the drought by offering free lash services to people so that I can continue practicing and improving. Also, being an introvert, this industry path I’ve chosen has forced me to be more vulnerable and outgoing. Hilariously, I have a shopping problem, so I am stocked up to my eyes on lash products for a while (even with a few clients).
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to be more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a lash artist for now. I plan to attend Esthetics school and become a licensed esthetician to provide other services besides eyelash extensions. My family and friends know me to be a perfectionist, and I bring that quality to my lash table. I am most proud of my drive for continuous learning. With every lash set I finish, I’m already thinking of ways to improve for the next time. What sets me apart from others? Since I’m just starting, I must figure out what makes me stand out. Otherwise, it could be my willingness to try new lash styles to set myself apart in the future.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am constantly taking in lash content from experienced artists via YouTube, Spotify, Instagram, and Facebook; you know I’m taking notes. I listen to “The Lanna Hustle,” “My Lash Two Braincells,” “Lash Biz Babes” podcasts and more. I keep up with ThousandLashes blogs (so many topics to read up on!). I invest in e-books to broaden my scope of knowledge. I follow people whose work I admire and whose story I can relate to. I learned to tailor my skills in everything from customer service to business financials. I’m in it to win it! But business is not the only thing I engross my daily life with. I love keeping up with my hobbies as well. I love all things beauty and books and Bratz, haha!
