Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Arias.
Hi Alejandro, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a young musician located in the Kansas City area, trying to figure out where I belong in the music industry. My journey as an independent artist started when I joined the Art as Mentorship program. My mentors have given me many opportunities and lots of knowledge to apply to my artistry. Now, as of the fall of 2025, I’ve formed a couple of bands, such as my full band “Ephemera” and my duo project with another KC artist, “NOEX”. I work with creating original music with this band as well as solo projects. I also produce and manage these local groups.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In such a vulnerable field, it’s challenging to be fully expressive when it comes to songwriting and showcasing your work to strangers or even family. Being young in this industry, it’s also difficult for people to take you seriously when trying to book shows or recording sessions. I think my biggest obstacle yet is finding time to achieve the goals that I want to achieve. I have a very busy schedule and am involved in numerous projects, which can make it challenging at times to give equal attention to all of them while still finding free time to decompress.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m new to the industry, but this scene moves quickly. Right now, my image is a local singer-songwriter who plays around town. I mainly write my songs in Spanish, and often when I go out and perform locally, I’m the only one performing in a different language. I am proud of the places I’ve performed at with having only started playing live for about a year and a half. I’ve played at Ameri’kana (24′, 25″), Crossroads Fest (24″,25″), Plaza Art Fair, and my favorite, The Smithsonian Folklife festival. I’m also incredibly grateful for my mentor, Enrique Chi, the lead singer and guitarist for the band called Making Movies. He has been the one who has granted me many of these opportunities and has helped me grow not only as an artist but also as a human being.
What does success mean to you?
In my eyes, success varies from person to person. My definition of success is being able to live comfortably around the people I care about and doing what I enjoy doing.
