Olivia Sommer of Springfield/Kansas City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Olivia Sommer shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Olivia , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I recently felt a true sense of pride and fulfillment when I took a step back and saw the connections I’ve built with my clients. More specifically, diving into the wedding industry has allowed me to not only capture beautiful images but also form genuine relationships with the couples I have the opportunity to work with. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’m not just a vendor, but I’m a part of one of the most memorable days of their lives.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Olivia Sommer, a Missouri based wedding and portrait photographer, with the goal of capturing authentic moments that reflect the true essence of love and joy. My brand is built on the belief that every special occasion deserves to be documented in a way that feels genuine and heartfelt.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
This may be one of the easiest questions to answer for me. My parents. I grew up with the reassurance that I could be or do anything I put my mind to. While this business was not my first career path, my parents supported me through every turn life took me through and were my biggest cheerleaders from this first moment I realized that photography was the dream that I wanted to chase.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I was given the chance to speak to my younger self, I would tell her to trust in her creativity and have confidence in her unique vision. Keep exploring, keep creating, and always believe in the beauty of your own artistic voice.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
One value I will always hold strong to, it authenticity. Whether people are seeing me through social media, events, or in day to day life I want them to know that what they see is what they get. Throughout my professional and personal life I will always continue to strive to be genuine and honest.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I can say without a doubt that I am doing what I was born to do. I have such a passion for this industry and thrive on celebrating the joy of others whether it’s capturing the grand moments of a wedding or the intimate moments of every day life. It’s the small moments, the laughter, the tears, the shared glances that truly resonate with me. Being able to freeze those experiences in time and share them with my clients doesn’t feel like a job, it truly feels like a calling.
