Meet Toria Freeman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toria Freeman.

Hi Toria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
During the pandemic I was working from home and I used a TON of candles. So I decided to use my down time to be creative. I did some research to add to my creativity and earn some extra income. When I landed on the creation of candles, I knew this was something I’d be great at. The deeper I dug into candle making, the more I was surprised at its process. I’m that person that researches till there’s no more pages to turn. In my kitchen is were I began my winning process. This is were Lit Candle was formed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Trust me when I thought it would be a simple task of melting candle wax. I had to learn a complete process and learn how to discipline and sacrifice while working a full time job as well as how to time management my personal life to be a business owner. There were times I wanted to give in, but I was determined to make it work. I was challenged with delays of products, products being delivered broken, materiel not turning out how I envisioned, and even equipment failure. Times like those required more conversations with God and much need prayer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Here at Lit Candle CO., I create soy-based candles. I’m so proud of the consistent support from the community, the nostalgia people feel when they smell the candles – as well as the people that notice me and consistently include me events. I did use my family and friends as testers to get their honest opinions before rolling out some of my final productions. My packaging has impressed many people as though I have a full warehouse that I work from.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The numerous candle groups I’m a part of on Facebook- as well as music while actually creating the candles.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a member of numerous candle groups that share ideas about candles. I’m also part of a Facebook group that let’s me know when someone is in need of a candle for personal or events happening in the greater Kansas City area. My music spirals through my ears as I am in the lab making beautiful creations.
