Meet Tina Ray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Ray.

Hi Tina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story is very diverse with unique experiences that have all been centered around being a creative entrepreneur and artist. I started my journey as a dancer. My mom put me in ballet class at the age of 3 and I loved it! At the age of 19, I opened my dance school in Picayune, Mississippi. When I was 25, I started dancing with the New Orleans Ballet, while still operating my dance school. Some of my students were chosen to dance in some of the New Orleans Ballet’s productions. It was a dream come true for me as well as my students.

When I was 29, the New Orleans Ballet lost their funding so I decided to make a shift. I sold my dance school and started working as a flight attendant for American Airlines. It was a great job that I loved for 15 years mainly because of the people that I met and the friends that I made. Many are friends that I still have today. As fate would have it, I also met my husband in the friendly skies! While working for the airline, I really missed teaching ballet, so in 2010 I started teaching part-time at the Kansas City Ballet School.

In 2012 my daughter was born and I retired my wings as a flight attendant so that I could stay home with her. I continued being a ballet teacher with the Kansas City Ballet School. In 2016 when my daughter was 4, I was introduced to the world of Instagram so I started an Instagram account, Missouri Magnolia. I started sharing my daily outfits and my life as a stay-at-home mom. I launched a blog with the same name shortly after starting my Instagram account. I loved meeting other ladies on Instagram who loved fashion like I did.

As my Instagram started to grow, I began working with brands which has become something that I really enjoy doing. I’m very selective about what brands I work with, always making sure the products are something that I would use and love and I know that my audience will also love. These are a few of my favorite brands that I have worked with: Sarah Flint Shoes, White House Black Market, Alivia, and Li Organics.

In addition to my general style advice on Instagram and my blog, I really wanted to help other women on a more individual basis with their personal style and wardrobe. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I began my journey as a personal stylist. I studied online from home and learned how to style others with personalized outfit selections and individual color palettes. The teacher in me was so happy to be able to help others with their personal style and overall image.

I’m so happy that my journey has brought me to where I am today, helping other women to look and feel fabulous on the outside so that they can feel equally as fabulous on the inside.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have always struggled with time management. I’ve learned that when I don’t have the time to completely finish a project, that just working on it for 10 minutes is better than doing nothing. All of the 10-minute increments add up and get you closer to the end goal of the finished project.

I’m also a perfectionist, so I will often put off working on something because I don’t have the time to do it perfectly. I’m learning (slowly) that just the act of doing is always better than perfect.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a content creator for my blog and Instagram page, a personal wardrobe stylist where I work one on one with my clients, and I am a ballet teacher. I am most proud of my entire life’s journey. When God puts a dream into my heart, I do my best to make the dream come true.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family makes me happy. Without the love and support of my family, especially my husband, Tim, I would not be able to inspire others through my work.

I am very proud of my daughter who is 9 years old (almost 10.) She has her own interests and dreams. It makes me very happy to watch her grow, learn, and follow her own dreams.
