Meet Theresa Goodman of Troost near Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Goodman

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Theresa Goodman has worked with traditional medicine beginning at a young age. Her mother began teaching about herbs and growing herbs as a child. At age 8yrs a homeopathic doctor came to live with us and began yet another curiosity for health and wellness. While living in Germany her family lived next to a small organic herb factory where she learned even more about the benefits of herbs and homeopathic remedies.
In 2005 she began her studies in yoga therapy and in 2016 became a certified yoga therapist, the first Indigenous woman to receive this. In 2016 she was hit by a car and sustained multiple injuries in the knee and lumbar spine. With the knowledge of herbs, homeopathy, yoga therapy she is pain free today! Pain management and recovery from trauma both physically and emotionally is one of her specialties.
She is the mother of four sons delivered via waterbirth on two continents and has kept them healthy with no over the counter drugs! She also specializes in family care.
In 2019 she fulfilled her life long dream of opening an herb shop Harvest Moon Botanica
She is an artist, vocalist, and entrepreneur.

From the beginning of time Indigenous people have created their own healing products with minerals, oils and plants harvested from Mother Earth. Generations later the indigenous ways of our ancestors still prove to be effective.
If you are interested in healing your mind body and or spirit as our ancestors did, Harvest Moon is the place for you. We are a woman indigenous owned and operated safe space, dedicated to providing all natural, non toxic plant, based alternatives for physical and spiritual healing. We posses a great deal of ancestral wisdom and knowledge that we are always willing to share.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The only struggle I had was when I allowed two business partners who did not align with any of my core values. They tried to take my business from me and the community. I had to start many things all over again.
The other is access to capitol. I have created this business with no access to loans or credit cards so this was actually a beneift in that I have had to do this on my own and learn how to budget and invest my money so it comes back to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

“We follow the tradition of Medicine Keepers, healers before us, we compose and blend our own herbal tea blends, right here in the store. We carry hundreds of medicinal herbs and culinary spices, as well as white, green, oolong, and black teas. Many of our bulk products are domestically cultivated, or locally and ethically wildcrafted, and a great number are imported from around the world. Since opening our doors in 2019, we are a knowledgeable and diverse staff of herbal advocates with forty years of experience studying and using botanicals.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The biggest risk I took was trusting taking on two business partners without knowing who they truly were. You never know who people are until things start to become challenging and uncomfortable. For me its an opportunity for growth, but most people walk away from it.
