We’d like to introduce you to two moms from KC who went viral online shuffle dancing in a garage. Anna Blanc and Christina Reynolds, the Shuffle Mamas, have over a million followers across social media, and they have taught thousands of women around the world to shuffle dance. We got a chance to catch up with Anna today.
Hi Anna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Christina and I are neighbors! We knew who one another were, but didn’t have a friendship until 2020. During Covid lockdown, Christina’s husband started leading outdoor, socially distanced workouts for our neighborhood. After one of those sessions, Christina told me she was looking for someone to learn to shuffle dance with her and asked if I would be interested. I had never heard of shuffling before, but I said, “Sure!”
Little did we know that we would find so much joy in dancing and such a sweet friendship. We started dancing twice a week in Christina’s garage, and that hour became our escape and our outlet as busy moms.
We first filmed ourselves just to see what we looked like. Over time, we started to share our progress on social media. It was such a surprise and a gift to find there were so many other women like us who were looking for a way to get in a healthy workout and have fun at the same time.
We started bringing others along on the journey of learning to shuffle through our shuffle dancing courses, and Shuffle Mamas LLC was born!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have definitely faced some challenges. The biggest one that comes to mind is when we were scammed, and we were locked out of our Facebook account. It was shocking and concerning to be stolen from.
However, even that had some silver linings. Our incredible Instagram audience leaned in hard and connected us with other creators who had experienced this. Their advice and connections helped us through. Within a few days we were able to recover our account. We are so thankful for new friends made even in the middle of a difficult time.
We also have the consistent challenge, as content creators, of the roller coaster of views and online engagement. Social media is ever-changing. It keeps us on our toes and also leaves us scratching our heads at certain times.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
If I had to pick one word to describe our journey, it would be “joy”. There’s not a single shuffle session that hasn’t lifted our mood, even from the very beginning.
There’s so much science behind the movement of dance and its health benefits both physically and mentally. Those benefits are so real — we often call our dance sessions “therapy”.
And that is what has made what we do in creating and selling shuffle dance courses so rewarding. We regularly hear from customers who are thriving in the very health benefits and endorphins we discovered when we began. Hearing those stories from our online community is our absolute favorite thing.
What am I most proud of? I’m proud of our consistency. Twice a week, an hour a session. We’ve been doing that for over 5 years now! Neither of us were dancers before we started, and we never would have guessed we would one day be teaching others and spreading the joy.
