Meet the Owners of MoeMO Maid Cafe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moemo Maid Cafe

Hi MoeMO, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Most maid cafes start with a group of friends who share a love for anime conventions and the unique experience of maid cafes. For Head Butler Clove, one of our three owners, that passion began as a fan before he ever became involved in running a cafe himself. Our team was brought together by the dream of recreating this interactive, heartwarming experience for others while forming meaningful connections along the way.
Though Clove is from the St. Louis area, Head Maid Bukiyou played a crucial role in spreading our name throughout Kansas City and Joplin, connecting with as many people as possible to introduce them to our group. Through persistence and networking, we began securing repeat partners who invited us to bring our immersive cafe experience to their venues and events. As our presence grew, we knew we needed a strong brand identity. That’s where our third owner, Head Maid Kiko—stepped in. She has been instrumental in shaping MoeMO’s branding and merchandise, ensuring we have a cohesive and recognizable image.
We started by promoting with the Kaizen group at various anime-themed events before making a name for ourselves at conventions like JoMoCon in Joplin. Our biggest milestone so far? Hosting a cafe at Kansas City’s largest anime convention, Planet Anime. We’re proud of the secure place we’ve built within this community and excited for the future.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a pop-up cafe, finding new venues to host us is a constant challenge. Since we don’t have a permanent location, making and maintaining strong connections is essential. Every event requires extensive coordination—not just in planning activities, schedules, and purchases, but also in managing the logistics of our volunteer-based team. With such a large group, organizing transportation, lodging, and individual schedules can feel like herding cats! We’ve even rented vans just to carpool all our “nekos” (Japanese for cats) to events.
But having good communication with a venue helps carry the weight tremendously. There are plenty of places we’d like to host. From time to time we run into dead ends when we reach out to conventions. We’ll be cheering for them and remain hopeful for future collaborations. We are always eager to grow our connections and welcome more royalty into the mansion.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
MoeMO Maid Cafe is a Missouri based pop-up designed to make events more interactive and magical. Our mission is to create personal interactions with customers that replicates the Maid Cafe experience that’s centralized in Akihabara, Japan. We specialize in hosting “pop-up cafes”, where we take a temporary event space and put together an immersive café feeling. MoeMO has maids, butlers, and servers ready to welcome you into our mansion, and serve you adorably themed treats and drinks, while also entertaining and creating lasting memories!
Our team consists of maids, butlers, and servers who welcome guests into our “mansion,” serving themed treats and drinks while engaging in playful interactions. During each time slot, we stay in character as our cat personas, play games, host activities, and even put on performances. We’re also active in the community, appearing at markets and charity events to run raffles and sell our original merchandise.
One of our biggest strengths is our self-sufficiency. Unlike some cafes that rely on event staff, we handle everything in-house—from food preparation to entertainment and branding. This allows us to maintain high-quality experiences tailored to our guests. Our goal is to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where everyone can step into a world of fun, fantasy, and friendship.

Our dedication to creating exciting experiences for our guests shows through our craftsmanship as a lot of our activities are crafted or put together by ourselves. Our performance as entertainers stay “in character” as our goal is to make you feel as if you have walked into a world of magical maids and butlers eager to be your friend so it is a very involved role-play type of experience, complete with cat character hijinks and casting magical spells on your food to make it extra tasty. Whether you’re an anime veteran or a newcomer, MoeMO Maid Cafe is here to bring a little extra magic to your day.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that we’ve learned as three young business owners is the value in doing things the right way; we want to make sure the services that we provide are something that we are proud to put on. It’s important to make it be something that you walk out feeling like that was definitely an unforgettable and worthwhile ticket and something that we ourselves would pay for. We created this community for people like us who like to have fun and indulge in our childlike whimsy despite what others think of it. To an outsider looking in it might seem uncomfortable for us to be putting on the show and pretending to be servers in a mansion, but when you’re seated at our table we bring you into our world where everyone is welcome and made to be happy.
