Meet Stacey Siegert of Moxie Talent Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Siegert. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Stacey Siegert, Owner, has been working since 2000 in the entertainment world. Starting out as an actor, she earned a Theatre and Film degree from The University of Kansas and then made New York City her home for almost 5 years.

While in NYC, she found she had a passion for the business side of the industry. She worked in the marketing department at The Blue Man Group, assisted actors as a Business Consultant at TVI Actors Studio, assisted in casting for Law & Order: SVU, and worked as a Manager in the Creative Division at Wilhelmina Models. Stacey’s career has spanned all aspects of the entertainment business.

Shortly after returning home to KC in 2005, Stacey became a Sr. Broadcast Agent at Exposure Model & Talent Agency where she invested 7 years developing actors and booking talent. During her time at Exposure, she decided to branch off, creating a company where she went one step further in molding actors by providing workshops for actors taught by local industry professionals. She called this company, Actors with Moxie, LLC.

Since 2009, Stacey has been producing workshops and creating curriculum geared toward the business-minded actor, essentially teaching them to consider and conduct themselves as a small business enterprise. Workshops have included such topics as Voice over Another Outlet for Actors, The Producer Panel, acting with a Teleprompter, Improvisation for the Actor, Stage Combat, Audition Technique with LA Casting Director, Acting for the Camera for Kids and Teens, and many others. She has been an adjunct professor at JCCC where she taught The Business of Being an Actor. Being an agent is Stacey’s passion, and she is thrilled to be doing it full-time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new talent agency when there are already 7 others was a tough challenge. I had worked in the industry here in KC at a competitor, so I had already had a reputation in the KC market. Finding how I wanted be different from the others and establishing myself from the others was a challenge. I had been an actor before, so as an agent I knew more about what it takes and what actors goes through. I am a better agent having been an actor. At Moxie Talent we focus on the actor, not the model. We are a boutique agency and that means we have less than 500 represented actors. We aim to always be a smaller agency. Our actors have names and are not just a number here.

Moxie Talent Agency is a Kansas City-based theatrical booking agency representing actors, models, voice-over artists, and hand models. Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned is that in Kansas City, this is a team industry. We all have to work together to make it happen. From the talent to the gaffer to the stylist to the client, all are important and have be involved to make a project successful. I represent actors and also work with clients directly so it is constantly a balancing act. Knowing how to communicate effectively and help share the vision of the client is very important. Clear, transparent communication is key.
