Meet Skye Wagner of A Little Motivation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skye Wagner.

Hi Skye, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Growing up I was always trying my best to fit in, even though I’m inherently very different. I was adopted at birth, I was biracial and raised in a primarily white family. The differences were obvious, and because I looked so physically different than the rest of my family, I had to share my adoption story all the time, even when I wasn’t ready to.

I tried really hard to conform and hide my differences. This meant copying my siblings’ hobbies and interests, style, appearance, and even career choices. I rarely made my own choices or pursued my own goals, and even told myself, I was bad at the things I was good at in an attempt to not stand out. I didn’t pursue any of my passions. I just kept trying to fit myself into a box. I ended up missing lots of opportunities and instead ended up working for a church, helping and counseling and coaching. I loved the individuals that I helped.

However, I soon found myself in a community that was very restrictive and controlling. I found myself in a relationship that was as well. I spent twelve years total doing this – helping thousands of people but lacking balance in life and having extremely tough personal issues and relationship issues with my now ex-husband. I eventually had a moment where I realized that I needed to live life for myself. I was tired of dreading each day and feeling so unhappy and unhealthy. I respected the people I was working with but knew that this was not in alignment for me.

I since left and started my own coaching practice where I help women who are in a similar situation trying to fit themselves into a box and living up to expectations rather than living the life they want – with my coaching program.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t. I encountered a lot of self-doubt and tons of self-invalidation. The self-invalidation was very extreme and I conquered that through some coaching and healing that I received plus meditation and strengthening my relationship with God.

I also had to deal with the doubt of some loved ones (from some family members and friends) who were worried that I might not be successful. I did encounter others who disagreed with what I was doing as well.

We’ve been impressed with A Little Motivation, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Women’s Empowerment Coach. I help women who are struggling with self-love to find their sense of self through my coaching program so that they can look in the mirror and love what they see,

I have helped thousands of people over my years of experience. The women I work with vary in age and situation, but I am able to get to the root problem and help to resolve it. What sets me apart is the huge volume of experience I have with people and the wide range of people I have worked with.

I offer readers a free Expression Session

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
What has worked well for me is taking an interest in the people that I meet and being genuinely interested in them and their stories, rather than making it all about me. Making it a point to truly and genuinely hear others is a game-changer.
