Hi Shivam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am the co-founder and CEO of UpCare Clinics. My wife and I came up with the idea of UpCare when we realized the obstacles that patients face in the modern world of healthcare. We saw patient’s care was sub-optimal on many levels with many friction points that are not necessary. It took almost two years of planning along with traveling across the United States to find out how to create a frictionless model of medical and dental care. We believe that we have created the best version of this model right here in Kansas City. We want patients to come to our clinic and know that they will receive the most efficient and high-quality medical and dental care in the area.
We made a clinic where patients can call one place and schedule to be seen for a dental check and wellness exam with labs in the same appointment. We reduced the amount of paperwork and streamlined the process. Patients only need to take time off once to go see a doctor. This allows patients to maintain their health with ease so we really are thinking of the patient’s needs first…
We truly are providing a seamless and modern healthcare experience.
And we couldn’t do it without our wonderful team that allows us to give patients that great experience.
My goal is to bring more of these clinics throughout the Kansas City area so people can receive the healthcare that they deserve.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening a single clinic in a world of big business healthcare is not an easy task. Regulation and compliance in a slow moving industry is the most difficult obstacle to traverse due to the innovation we are trying to create in healthcare.
Figuring out a system in which patients can be seen in the same clinic for medical and dental care has been a difficult task, especially since it has never been done effectively.
Creating a modern healthcare experience in which patients can still feel like they are well taken care of and getting rid of the hospital like feel of a medical clinic.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
This has never been done before effectively which makes it difficult to learn from a previous model. The biggest risk is forecasting the future experience and exceptions of healthcare and trusting what we are providing is valuable.
