Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheraz Pompey.
Hi Sheraz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I went to a perfomance arts high school where I had to audition to get in, I auditioned for drawling and got accepted. During my senior year, I took a fashion design class as an elective and quickly determined that it was something I really enjoyed doing. I started skipping my drawling class to spend more time in the fashion design class so I could learn more about sewing. After high school I decided to work full time and do designing on the side, throughout that journey I still only had a little knowledge about how to sew so a lot of trial & error, googling and YouTube contribute to how I learned how to sew, I am mostly a self-taught designer. During my journey of working full time, I started to design for prom and a couple of my dresses began to go viral which cause the design to be published on essence & bet.com which cause a lot of business my direction. At the time I was still working full time for UPS so I tried my best to balance both but with my business growing at a fast past I had to make a hard decision to leave my full-time job behind and run my business full time which I worried because I had depended on UPS for guaranteed income but I prayed about it and took the risk. Ever since I left my business has grown to higher heights, I now have a storefront located in Grandview Missouri, I offer custom designs, along with bridal designs as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for me, trying to balance working full time and trying to commit to doing your work good but also knowing that your passion is your side gig. Also, now that I have my business, I’ve done everything by myself and trying to adjust with it growing, I recently came to the realization that you can’t do everything on your own, and with a growing business to run smoothly you need to have a team. Currently, I’m in the process of getting a team together to help because the good thing is that my business is growing but I need to make sure I’m running it to its best ability.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sheraz Pompey Designs & The Blueprint KC?
I have been designing custom designs since 2015, I currently specialize in Bridal, Prom, Formal & Evening wear. In October of 2020, me and my family opened up a Boutique (The Blueprint KC) where we offer Custom Designs, Ready to Wear merchandise, and makeup services. We are a one-stop shop. I am most proud of how many bridal parties I have designed for, the experience for me is amazing because I am now a part of someone’s memory forever and just to see everyone smile make me feel like I’m really on the right path in my life and I’m living my dream. My brand and our family boutique offer unique designs that can’t be found anywhere else locally, and since we offer custom one-of-one design the experience for the customer knowing the design won’t be found anywhere else sets up apart from others around the world.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that is important to be has been how humble I have been throughout the years of me designing, which I feel is important in any entrepreneur’s business especially when trying to grow it. No matter how successful you get you should always be relatable & humble so your clientele always feels comfortable when coming to you. I love the way after my client gets their design they smile because I brought their idea to life. Those moments are what matters the most to me.
