Today we’d like to introduce you to ShaDonna Coleman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began long before I became a nurse or business owner. I have worked in healthcare for more than 20 years, starting with my administrative career, not realizing this would be the foundation of everything I’ve built to date. I began my nursing career in 2005, as an LPN and later returned to school to become a Registered Nurse. Throughout my career, I worked in several areas of healthcare, where I saw firsthand how much support individuals and families need outside of the traditional medical setting. Those experiences helped shape my desire to create a company that would allow people to remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes.
In 2020, during a time of tremendous uncertainty in healthcare, I stepped out on faith and founded Golden Life In Home Services. What started as an idea discussed between my husband and I, became a wonderful reality. Together, we’ve built one of the most reliable Home Care agencies in the Kansas City area.
In the early stages, I had to learn every aspect of building a business; from licensing and contracting, to staffing, policies, billing, and day-to-day operations. There were challenges along the way, but I remained committed to the vision and continued moving forward.
When VoyageKC first shared my story in 2023, Golden Life In Home Services was still growing and establishing its presence in the community. Since then, we have continued to expand our services, our team, and the number of individuals and families we are able to support.
One of our most significant milestones came in October 2025, when our business expanded and launched Golden Life CPR Services.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a perfectly smooth road, but I believe that is true of any worthwhile endeavor that requires faith, growth, and a willingness to take risks. Challenges may arise from time to time, but I have not experienced anything significant enough to make me question the path of entrepreneurship or the purpose I feel called to fulfill through serving others.
A major part of that has been surrounding myself with the right people. I have been intentional about selecting staff members who genuinely understand caregiving and treating each person who joins our team with respect and personal connection. I also believe in leading by example. I am never afraid to step in, assist, or fill a need when I am able, because I understand the work firsthand.
My background in nursing and caregiving has helped me recognize what quality service truly looks like, both for our clients and our employees. Choosing the right clients, building strong relationships, and having supportive people around me have made the journey much smoother. More than anything, I feel that God has truly blessed me by placing the right people in my path and allowing the business to grow without overwhelming hardship.
As you know, we’re big fans of Golden Life Of Kansas City. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Golden Life began with the belief that people (specifically, aging adults) deserve to live safely, independently, and with dignity. That purpose first came to life through Golden Life In Home Services, which provides compassionate support to individuals who want to remain in their homes and communities. As the needs around us became clearer, the vision expanded. Golden Life CPR Services was created as another way to promote safety, preparedness, and confidence; not only inside the home, but throughout the community.
Golden Life CPR Services has become an exciting and meaningful extension of our overall brand. Through our American Red Cross approved training, we are able to provide CPR, First Aid, and emergency response education to individuals, organizations, and businesses throughout the Kansas City region. This service has positively impacted our company by allowing us to connect with people beyond traditional caregiving and help prepare everyday community members to respond confidently when an emergency occurs.
One of the most rewarding parts of Golden Life CPR Services has been the relationships we have developed. Our classes bring us into contact with childcare providers, healthcare professionals, dental and medical offices, home care agencies, massage therapists, electricians, business owners, and many others who understand the importance of protecting their employees, clients, and communities. These partnerships allow us to educate people from many different industries while creating a training experience that is professional, welcoming, hands-on, and easy to understand.
What sets us apart is that Golden Life is more than a single company or service. Golden Life of Kansas City is a growing brand built from real experience in nursing, caregiving, education, and entrepreneurship. Everything we offer is connected by a common purpose: helping people live safer, healthier, and more supported lives. Because I understand the work firsthand, our services are developed with both the client and the professional in mind.
I am most proud that the Golden Life name has continued to grow without losing its personal foundation. We value relationships, lead with compassion, and remain closely connected to the people we serve. Whether we are placing a caregiver in someone’s home or teaching a room full of participants how to perform CPR, our goal is for each person to feel respected, prepared, and cared for.
We have also moved into a larger office at 19401 E. US Highway 40, Suite 150, Independence, Missouri 64055. Our new location includes dedicated CPR training rooms and gives us the ability to accommodate multiple class sizes and training needs. Having a space designed specifically for education and hands-on instruction represents another major step forward for the Golden Life brand.
Looking back, I am proud of how much has changed since my first VoyageKC feature in 2023. What began as one home care company has grown into multiple service areas centered around caregiving, education, safety, and community wellness. I am still a nurse at heart, and that foundation continues to guide every decision I make. My journey has required faith, persistence, flexibility, and a willingness to keep learning, but each step has brought me closer to the larger vision I have for Golden Life: creating services and resources that help people live safer, healthier, and more independent lives.
Golden Life In Home Services and Golden Life CPR Services are only the beginning. There are additional phases of the brand being developed, and the long-term vision reaches far beyond where we are today. I believe Golden Life has the potential to contribute to much larger conversations surrounding wellness, caregiving, preparedness, aging, and community impact. I would not be surprised to one day find myself discussing that vision on platforms alongside influential women such as Oprah Winfrey or Michelle Obama. I believe in thinking boldly, remaining faithful to the purpose, and allowing the work to speak for itself.
Even while operating and growing a business, I make time to focus on my own personal growth and passions. Since our last conversation I’ve written two books and am now a published author of, Reflections Before Horizons and Paving the Way: On the Road Less Traveled. Both books reflect my journey, experiences, and desire to encourage others to pursue their purpose with faith, perseverance, and intention, and they are currently available for purchase on Amazon.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone just starting out is to remain true to who you are and make whatever you choose to pursue your own. It is perfectly fine to be inspired by someone else’s success, ideas, or journey, but inspiration should never become imitation. No one else has your exact experiences, gifts, perspective or purpose. You have to understand what God has called you to do and have the confidence to follow that path in a way that is authentic to you.
I have learned that purpose becomes clearer when you stop comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle or end. What works for another person may not be the plan God has for your life. You can learn from others, seek guidance, and study successful examples, but you still have to develop your own vision, values, and way of doing things. The goal is not to recreate someone else’s life plan. The goal is to become the fullest version of who you were created to be.
I would also encourage people to do their own research and understand what is required at every level. A great idea is only the beginning. Whether you are building a business, advancing in your career, or pursuing a personal goal, you must learn the rules, requirements, responsibilities, and financial commitments involved. Ask questions, read, prepare, and never be afraid to admit what you do not know. Every new level will require you to grow into a more knowledgeable, disciplined and capable version of yourself.
One thing I wish more people understood is that you do not have to have everything figured out before you begin. You simply need enough faith to take the first step and enough humility to keep learning along the way. There will be moments when you have to adjust, improve, or take a different route, but that does not mean you are off course. Growth often requires flexibility.
Most importantly, lead with integrity, treat people well and never lose sight of why you started. Build something that reflects your values and serves a purpose beyond simply making money. When you stay grounded in who you are, do the necessary work and remain faithful to what God has placed in your heart, your journey may not look like anyone else’s… and that is exactly how you know the path your on, is your Own!
