Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Wright.
Hi Sarah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been pulled in by the art of photography. As a young girl I remember looking at old photos that my parents had taken on their film camera and it bringing such a spark of creativity and excitement into my life. From their travels, to images of my sisters and I as children, I was intrigued by it all. Before I began taking photos myself I had many moments in my life where a single photo would stop me in my tracks. It would somehow bring out emotion, magic, and cause a fleeting moment to last a lifetime. I knew I wanted to explore this craft but it wasn’t until 2013/2014 that I really decided to take a leap and begin my photography journey. In 2014 I started doing a few sessions here and there to build up my portfolio and my skills. A few years later I began taking on sessions more seriously and saw that I may have something worth sharing. Over the last 10 years I have been able to meet so many wonderful people. I have had the privilege to photograph weddings, newborns, first birthdays, growing families, and family gatherings. I always leave a session feeling inspired, excited, and grateful for this gift God has given me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think there are many layers and factors that have come into play over the course of my photography business. The biggest being balancing my time working on photography and my time as a wife and mother. Over the last 6 years we have brought 3 beautiful boys into the world. I have taken time off and have struggled being consistent and finding the balance of taking on sessions and giving 100% to my boys. It’s hard to be in two places at once. The second factor that I often struggle with is working through comparison. There are so many amazing photographers I look up to and who I see all over social media. It’s so easy for me to feel as though maybe I just don’t belong or I’m not good enough to offer sessions for my clients. Both of these struggles are things I’m working through. I’ve tried really hard to hold onto the why behind my photography. Not for the praise, or the money, but because how it makes me feel and how it makes my clients feel when they receive their galleries. To know that they will have something to look back on for years to come. Those moments are invaluable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my photography business I offer many different types of sessions from couples, to families, newborns, and seniors. I photograph weddings on occasion and have recently gotten into some event photography. I think I gravitate towards families the most. As a mom of 3 I love getting to photograph families and their children. I know how quickly those years fly by and love getting the chance to give my clients photos that encapsulates their children in every stage of life. My favorite part of family photography is getting to grow along side of them, from seeing them become parents for the first time, to seeing them bringing home their 3rd child. It’s been such an honor and privilege to be a part of their story.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is that my clients feel comfortable and confident with me as their photographer. I want my clients to feel like they can be themselves, laugh, have fun, and enjoy a photo session as well as know that the photos will always come out. I have witnessed many families wondering if I got any good shots, if you have young children you know what i’m talking about talking about, and then be so excited to see the end results and end up coming back the next year for family photos again. I want to capture genuine moments and want my clients to feel excited to get behind my camera.
