Meet Sarah Watson of Healing Medical & Therapeutic Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Watson.

Sarah Watson

Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I never thought about getting into the field of massage therapy. All I knew is that I wanted to be CEO of a prestigious company. So let’s just say it was a calling; a passion that found me.

While in massage school, after earning so many hours, I decided to work at a beauty salon as a massage therapist. It was commission based but I had the luxury of being my own boss. However, because I was just starting out, I had little to no clientele so it was difficult to stay afloat. After school, I continued to work at the salon but I eventually went back into the corporate world. But I felt like there was something missing. I wasn’t able to help people the way my heart desired.

Some time had past when I decided to quit my 9 to 5 and go back into the massage field. By this time, I was a single mother and times were hard but I couldn’t ignore what was on my heart so I had to step out in faith and trust God. I worked at a few massage chains when I realized that something was still missing. I wasn’t able to live up to my full potential of my gift of healing working at someone else’s establishment. That’s when God put it on my heart that it was time to open up my own massage business. I wanted individuals experiencing serve chronic or acute muscle pain to truly know what it’s like to truly heal or help manage their pain through the healing arts of massage therapy. For them to know that it is more that just a luxury, it’s an investment to their health.

So I started on my entrepreneurial journey again but this time, it was going to be different. This time I had God guiding me instead of me trying to do things on my own, without Him. Over time with faith, hard work, dedication and perseverance, my business began to grow. As it says, “Your gift will make room for you.” and that is just what it did. I didn’t have worry about doing much advertising because my patients would do it for me by word of mouth. They would refer their co-workers, family and friends and then their friends would tell their family. I went from doing one to maybe three clients a week to being booked out 3 to 4 months in advance. I went from renting one room office spaces to a 900 square foot brick and mortar. I know God is not through with me yet, so there is more to come. After all, this is His provision. I am just the vessel.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say it’s been a smooth ride but it’s far from it. It’s a faith walk for me everyday. That includes a time when I thought I was being given the opportunity to expand my business, only to find out that, that same person wanted to take my company from me instead and because I didn’t give in, I was given 30 days to relocate my business. With no where to go and not knowing what to do, I did the only thing I could do….I had to trust and have faith that God was with me and was going to help me. Within three days of my departure date, God blessed me with a new location. I found it on a Thursday. Got my keys on Friday and moved in that Saturday. I’ve also had to deal with someone mimicking my company’s name and winning an award off my professional reputation and character. My family, friends, clients, etc., thought it was my company that was nominated for the award and voted. Unknowingly to them, it was someone else. So after that, I decided to change the name of my business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I started this business back in 2012 as Healing Touch Therapeutic Massage. Over the years I decided to pivot my company to focus more on individuals with muscle pain due to medical issues. So after getting my medical massage license, I changed the name to Healing Medical & Therapeutic Massage ~ The Touch That Heals.

Healing Medical & Therapeutic Massage specializes in helping individuals with chronic or acute muscle pain due to medical conditions, injuries, etc. From post surgery to auto immune conditions, or from car accidents to the stress of everyday life, we customize each session to fit each person’s need(s). Even though medical massage is our specialty, we still offer our service to individuals experiencing normal aches and pains including children. Our goal is to make sure you leave our office feeling better than what you did when you came in and our thorough massages are essential to making sure that your pain relief has a longer lasting effect.

Also, I am happy to announce that my business, Healing Medical & Therapeutic Massage is now an official medical provider for veterans!
Veterans can use their medical insurance to pay for their massage sessions. This is great for veterans who suffer from muscle pain and the best economical way for them to receive massage treatments to help alleviate or manage their muscle pain. So if you or someone you know is a veteran and is in need of some pain relief, just contact your local VA to request Healing Medical & Therapeutic Massage as your massage place for treatment.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like our Kansas City Chiefs! What I don’t care for is the bipolar weather we have. We can have all four seasons in one day.
