Meet Sarah Sievers of Tripoint Acupuncture Plus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Sievers.

Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe NM in 2017. From there my husband and I moved our family to Kansas where I opened a small clinic in Leawood before 2020 hit and decimated small businesses like mine.
I was hired at Julie Bear Don’t Walk L.Ac in Lawrence that year. I worked closely with Julie for three years at which time Julie made the difficult decision to close her practice and help me open Tripoint Acupuncture Clinic in order to continue serving my patients and the Lawrence community.
Michelle Truckey (associate acupuncturist) and Stephanie Stuhlsatz (Clinic Director) came with me from Julie’s and I couldn’t do any of this without them. Michelle’s background in women’s health and knowledge of digestion and allergies are incredible assets and balance my pain, autoimmune and neuro-acupuncture background perfectly. Stephanie keeps the wheels greased and running smoothly all while providing excellent customer care with a warm and inviting smile.
I’ve built this clinic to cater to all walks of life so we have hydraulic tables which help people with back pain and those in wheel chairs receive care comfortably as well as two more typical acupuncture tables in quiet and dim rooms for those suffering from migraines and stress. We offer cupping, micro needling, red light therapy and more.
We’re currently looking to hire a massage therapist to further support our patients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacle for most Licensed Acupuncturists is generalized misinformation, incorrect assumptions, and lack of knowledge surrounding acupuncture and herbs.
Acupuncture is not generally painful and most patients nap during their treatments.
Acupuncture is also better understood by science than ever before and more data is showing its incredible effectiveness in conditions such as body pain, PTSD, and Alpha Gal (an allergy to red meat caused by tick bites).
Some assume acupuncture should cause immediate improvement but they actually require repetition much like physical therapy does.
Dry Needling is taught in acupuncture school because it has always been part of acupuncture known as ‘trigger point therapy’. It’s just been re-discovered, rebranded, and points have been placed on a strict map.
Herbs are largely misunderstood due to lack of general knowledge by medical professionals. Not all, but most medical professionals recommend not using herbs at all primarily because they do not have the training to understand how the herbs interact with medications. Diplomats with a Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine have extensive knowledge of how herbs interact with medications. It’s what we do. Furthermore herbs across the globe have lead to astounding scientific breakthroughs leading to some of the most useful medications around. These medications include Aspirin who’s origin is White Willow Bark and a treatment for Malaria derived from Sweet Worm Wood.
My personal biggest obstacle has been my husbands recent battle with Glioblastoma. Beginning in May, we’ve been working with Mayo and KU to ensure he receives the best care possible but it’s taken a toll on us and our three boys in many ways. The place I find I am most centered and happy is working in clinic with my patients. I get into a flow and worries outside of patient care just fall away.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Tripoint Acupuncture Plus is an acupuncture clinic located in Lawrence Kansas.

We treat men, women and children of all ages and cater to comfort.

How do you think about luck?
I have experienced luck many times though being the recipient of that luck has always required taking painful steps forward.
The day I chose to interview with Julie Bear Don’t Walk knowing that I’d be giving up my Leawood clinic was a hard day but ultimately an amazing opportunity.
When I received the call the Julie was planning to close her clinic I had a choice to make. My husband said I could stay home but I ultimately chose to open Tripoint Acupuncture Clinic in just 6 weeks. It was so hard but now, looking back it was a no-brainer and an incredible stroke of luck hidden behind a mask of great loss.
