Today we’d like to introduce you to Royalettes Vinyl Club. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Jess and Tama met, seemingly by fate, in a now-defunct basement speakeasy. They quickly bonded over collecting soul and funk records and decided to start a club. Kimmie was a dance regular at soul nights and was a perfect addition. The three of them began booking dance parties in various venues in Kansas City and expanded to different genres of music from their varied record collections.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As things were going along well, COVID hit and the clubs closed. The Royalettes stayed in touch and continued to share music with each other online through social media. During this time, they ventured into live-streaming but missed playing in person. Finally, things opened back up and they were able to get back to spinning live.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are strictly vinyl and known for our retro set lists and bold style. There aren’t many ladies playing vinyl-only in the area, which sets us apart. We’re very proud of being able to support femme-focused events in the area.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
One thing we had in common was our lifelong love for music.
