Meet Rebecca Carroll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Carroll.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Before photography, I was a care aide for ten years. I started taking photos as a hobby, just me and my friends, and fell in love with it. I took a chance going full time and spent the first few years submitting to lots of magazines and awards. I was surprised by how fast it grew. Now I live in the serene forest of Vancouver Island and I’ve been blessed to capture love stories all over British Columbia and worldwide for over a decade. I’ve shot over 250 weddings and I still get emotional at every single one.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Leaving a stable ten-year career as a care aide to go full time as a photographer was terrifying. As a one woman team, there’s no calling in sick and you never quite know where your next paycheque is coming from, which can be scary. The first few years I was learning how to run a business while also learning the craft, and there were times I wondered if I’d made a huge mistake. But every struggle taught me something, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer on Vancouver Island, and I specialize in capturing love stories for lovers, dreamers and free souls. I’ve been published in WedLuxe and Cosmopolitan Bride Hong Kong, among many others, and I’ve won awards including Best Photographer at the Vancouver Island Wedding Awards and was a Top 15 Finalist at the International Wedding Photographer of the Year awards in 2025. I’m known for the emotion in my work. I’ve shot over 250 weddings and I still get emotional at every single one. What sets me apart is that I bring ten years as a care aide into every wedding day. I’m used to holding space for people in emotional moments, and I think that comes through in the photos.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to work with me is to book me for your wedding or portrait session through my website at rivkahphotography.ca.
