Today we’d like to introduce you to Ra’Chelle Floyd.
Ra’Chelle , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I actually got my start in brows after being let go from a dead-end job. Brows had always been something I was fascinated by—I’d practice on myself at my desk at work and on my friends whenever I could. When I lost that job, my husband encouraged me to take some time off instead of rushing back into the workforce, and to really figure out what I was passionate about. That’s when I found my start in eyebrow artistry. With my mom being a salon owner for over 20 years, it felt like the perfect fit and the right place to begin my career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel so blessed that the road has really aligned with the vision I had for myself in this field. Almost right away, my clientele started to grow. In the beginning, I was literally penciling in appointments in a little planner my best friend bought me—early mornings, late nights, whenever a client needed me. Before I knew it, I had set hours and a loyal, consistent clientele.
Of course, like anyone in the service industry knows, there are always seasons of ups and downs. Some days you make $100, other days $1000, and as an entrepreneur there’s no guaranteed income. Planning and saving have been so important for me to feel secure, even during the slower times. But at the end of the day, I’m so grateful that my dreams and reality came together so quickly, and that I get to do something I truly love.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Brow and Permanent Makeup Artist, and my most requested service is Ombre Microshading—a semi-permanent makeup technique for eyebrows. It’s one of the most popular looks right now because it takes the stress out of brow maintenance and leaves you looking “ready for the day” every single day. Along with that, I also offer a range of brow and lash services tailored to each client’s needs.
The thing that I am most proud of is starting an entire business initially being self taught, then going and doing the things I needed to do to solidify my business. I truly had a vision of what I wanted for my career made it happen.
Also, I’m honored to have won the Kansas City People’s Choice Award for Best Brows twice, and to have been a finalist or semi-finalist nearly every year since I started. What makes that so special to me is that it’s based on community voting—being recognized by both peers and clients means the world.
What I believe truly sets me apart isn’t just the work I create, but the experience I provide for each client in my chair. I value building relationships just as much as achieving amazing results. I’m always learning new techniques, refining my skills, and pushing myself to be better—because my clients deserve nothing less.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
For me, the most important part of what I do is customer service and client satisfaction. There’s a saying I love: “People may forget what you say or do, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.” That’s exactly how I approach my work. Brows and lashes are more than just a service—they’re a way to give women a renewed sense of confidence and self. That feeling is what I take the most pride in and that’s what I hold most valuable to my success.
