Meet PL of The Lawnarchy

Today we’d like to introduce you to PL.

Hi PL, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When PL, a touring emcee and stalwart in KC’s Hip-Hop community, and Jamel Rockwell, a well versed DJ and producer, were not able to perform in venues, PL concocted The Lawnarchy as an alternative to doing live performances during the pandemic. At the beginning of Season 3, The Lawnarchy added Jason “J-Ritoc” Jefferson to the cast.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been a lot of ups and downs in our journey. Some of the most difficult struggles have been simply learning the ropes of podcasting, and finding “Our thing.”

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Lawnarchy, aka “The Lawn,” looks to provide a space for artists and community members to relax a little, while discussing the matters that effect our day-to-day lives. We also strive to focus on mental health, with the weekly segment known as “The Check In.” In doing so, The Lawn has been able to connect with the Hip-Hop and generally local communities. That connection led to The Lawnarchy winning “Best Local Podcast” from Kansas City Magazine, while also garnering over a dozen nominations from other Kansas City publications such as The Pitch Magazine. Proving that a Hip-Hop point of view is relevant and necessary.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What we like the most about Kansas City is how the residents represent for KC wherever they are. We’ve been coast-to-coast and border-to-border, and whenever we have on a Chiefs shirt, or Royals hat, or even MIZZOU or KU gear, Kansas Citians will approach, and ask us what part of town we’re from, and if we tried any of the locals BBQ
Unfortunately, negative aspects of the town sometimes precede us, and the history of “redlining” or current crime rates become the topics of discussion.
