Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Leahy.
Hi Paul, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a plastic & reconstructive surgeon who grew up in the KC area. My great-grandfather, grandfather, and father were all physicians, so I have been around caring for patients my entire life. I did my training at KU Medical Center and joined the private practice here at Monarch Plastic Surgery where I have been since 2008. My nurse, Maggie, and I work closely together to take care a variety of plastic surgery problems that our patients present with (cosmetic, reconstructive, hand & face injuries, skin cancer and skin-care related). I have been married for over 21 years and we have two boys.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surgical training is very hard. It requires ridiculously long hours, managing stressful situations in a calm way, and even more hours spent in the classroom and in the hospital. It’s hard to raise a family during that time as well, but also keeps you grounded!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Monarch Plastic Surgery?
I included some additional info above, but Monarch has been around since 1995 and we take pride in our reputation for providing excellent patient care. We offer a wide scope of services to our patients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Great question! I suppose there’s a little of both of those. I do believe that hard work, dedication, and the right team members are more important than any sort of luck. We try to make the best decisions for our patients and our practice at each step of the way. Some decisions turned out to be great, some not so much, but we try to learn each time.
