Meet Paul Law of We Tha W.A.V.E.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Law.

Hi Paul, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started many years ago when I kept having visions of receiving awards and accolades for my contributions to music and entertainment.

Since then, there are famous names I could drop, and stories of record deals that I was a part of that I could speak on, but those “names” and those “deals” never benefitted me financially in any way. For me, all those experiences turned out to be the life lessons that led me to create my production company “We Tha W.A.V.E.” (We Are Vibe & Energy) in 2020.

Before starting my company, I have to admit that I was not always sure of my abilities. I have to admit that I did give up on music for over 10 years. I have to admit that during that time I allowed all the doubts from family and other naysayers to creep in. I have to admit that I ate my pain and literally ballooned to 488lbs. It wasn’t until 2014 that I took control of my weight and dropped almost 200lbs over a 4-year period.

From 2014 to 2018, I not only lost weight, but I also lost people. People that I liked, or loved that I thought were good for me but turned out to be people who were holding me back. With those naysayers gone, it allowed my belief in myself to become strong enough that the negativity and judgment from others didn’t bother me anymore.

I began to surround myself with more and more positive people, which included my friend and business partner Frank Hubbard Jr, who then introduced me to Tyree Johnson. Together, we are “We Tha W.A.V.E.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing about my journey has been smooth. I literally have to work hard for every like, every stream, every share, etc. As an independent artist and production company.

I do not have a major “machine” behind me that gets my W.A.V.E. of music further into the universe. I also do not have investors, so to make my music videos and promotional campaigns happen, I work multiple jobs to fund it all.

Another thing that makes my journey harder is that I live in Kansas City. Kansas City is far from a mecca of music, and even though there are so many multi-talented singers, writers, producers, actors, and musicians that live here, it is very hard to “make it” unless you have a presence outside of Kansas City.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I have always admired trendsetters.

The trailblazers were the first to do it. In music, it is incredibly hard to be first for multiple reasons. One of the major reasons is that “the algorithm” doesn’t favor the first, it favors what’s poppin’. This means that unless you sound like what is “popular”, it is less likely that you will get the opportunity to reach the masses.

With that said, We Tha W.A.V.E. LLC is built on the foundation of creating our own W.A.V.E. of music. We specialize in R&B, Pop, Gospel, and Jazz, but we are open to collaborations with any genre. We pride ourselves on creating music that has all the drum, bass, synth, vocal elements, and other instrumentation that you love, combined with real, personal, and fun lyrics that are relatable to the relationship issues we all go through every day.

There are three partners in our company that understand and respect each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Paul-Law AKA L.A-Dub Baby is an Artist, writer, and producer, Frank Hubbard Jr is a musician/pianist and producer and Tyree Johnson is a drummer/musician, producer, and engineer.

Together officially, since 2020, We Tha W.A.V.E. has released the ImPaulLaw EP, the L.A-Dub Baby Album that features the song “Delicious Kisses”, as well as multiple singles like “I Do”, “Play My Song”, “When I Feel” and multiple collaborations that are soon to be released.
