Meet Pamela Cates of Belton, Missouri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Cates

Hi Pamela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It started with an empty nest and a prayer. Our last daughter had just gone off to collage. My husband, Joe and I asked God what was the next chapter of our lives. That lead to selling our large home in Loch Lloyd and moving into a RV on 350 in Belton, MO.I had been volunteering at the Belton Middle School pantry for 7 years and felt like I wanted a place that I could bring kids and have them unplug and experience nature. We started with raw farm land that had been stripped of its top soil due to poor farming practices. We set out to build a life here and restore the land. I sold my Mercedes and bought a John Deer. This city girl had gone country. In the process of building and having our daughter wedding here we decided to start a wedding venue/event space. 4 horses, 3 goats, 2 dogs, 8 chickens and a herd of Japanese Wagyu and Rubia Galega cattle we are off and going on this farm life. Kids from Belton come out and find peace on the farm.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It started with an empty nest and a prayer. Our last daughter had just gone off to college. My husband Joe, and I asked God what was the next chapter of our lives. That led to selling our large home in Loch Lloyd and moving to a RV on 350 acres in Belton, Missouri. At that time, I had been volunteering at the Belton middle school food pantry for 7 years. I wanted a place that I could bring kids and have them unplug and experience nature. My husband and I started with raw farm land that had been damaged due to industrial farming practices. We set out to build a life here and restore the land. I sold my Mercedes and bought a John Deer Tractor. This city girl had gone country. In the process of building and having our daughter’s wedding here we decided to start a wedding venue/event space. Now, 4 horses, 3 goats, 2 dogs, 2 Highland calves, 8 chickens, and a herd of Japanese Wagyu and Rubia Gallega cattle, we were off and going on this farm life. Kids from Belton now come out and find peace on the farm.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My husband is a surgeon in Kansas City. I was an RN. Now I run the farm, take care of the animals and run the venue business. My friends that have known me in my city girl days can’t believe I am the farm girl that I am today.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am very interested in getting kids in Belton to further their education. I try to foster that as much as I can. Someday I would like to start a fund to help these kids go to college or trade schools.
