Today we’d like to introduce you to Niki Jensen. Them and their team share their story with us below:
On August 18, 2015, Claire posted the first-ever KC plates Instagram post at the Taco Republic. Over the past few years, hundreds of posts, and countless tacos, kc plates have granted some of the best eats in KC.
Claire set out to share her appetite for the best food with all of the KC areas and along the way learned that her platform could share something more.
In Claire’s personal life, she values supporting local businesses, sharing about minority-owned businesses, and companies who are doing their part to sustain our planet. When her coworkers found out that she was kc plates, we may have fan girl just a bit.
Slowly but surely we got to help her find new places to eat and we’d even send her new recommendations. Now it is a team effort and the four gals who run KC plates are having so much fun learning from her and bringing new ideas to the platform and growing with the times.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think most content creators would tell you that the energy ebbs and flows.
Sometimes we have 1,000 ideas running through our heads and sometimes it feels hard to even think of 1. Sometimes life gets in the way and we lean into other areas of life and that’s okay.
Currently, the four of us are all coworkers and we’ve been in a busy period, but we’ve also never been more excited about kc plates and what the future looks like.
Growing with the trends and learning the new ins and outs is ever-changing but that’s half the fun.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The original appetite behind kc plates, Claire, works for a local tech company in the Crossroads as a Customer Success Team member, which is how all four of us met.
We all work in different areas of the business but bonded over our love of trying new and delicious foods around KC. When each of us met Claire for the first time we may or may not have fangirled a bit… once Claire was offered a job in our company’s Sydney office, she slowly rallied us to take on kc plates.
Claire’s passion really shines through around supporting local businesses, bringing light to small businesses, and encouraging people to do their part to keep our earth clean. She’s the sole reason our office now composts and recycles!
Food is a huge area of waste in our country and I think Claire’s passion to share local businesses stems from that being a great way to promote businesses who are doing things in a different way.
We are hoping to really start highlighting more “behind the scenes” info as we share new businesses – we want to know their story, what they are doing differently, and how the community can support them.
