Meet Niesha Miser of Embracing Life Therapeutics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niesha Miser.

Hi niesha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into therapy truly began during my time working for Child Protective Services (CPS) in Dallas, Texas. That experience gave me invaluable insight into family dynamics, the court system, and the inner workings of government agencies. I spent countless hours collaborating with therapists, which naturally led to deeper conversations about their roles—what they did, what they loved about it, and how they made an impact.

After six years with CPS, I decided to take the next step and applied to graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in professional counseling. While in the program, I realized I wanted more direct experience working with adults, which led me to a position with Rockwall County Probation, just outside Dallas. That role was nothing short of eye-opening. I worked with inspiring judges and an incredible supervisor, Brett, who helped me tap into my natural ability to read people and use it meaningfully in my work. I genuinely loved every moment of that job.

As part of my graduate program, I needed to complete a counseling internship. I was fortunate to join a substance abuse treatment facility led by another remarkable mentor, Mark O’Neal. There, I had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of individuals—gang members, young adults struggling with addiction, and mothers grieving the loss of partners to substance use. It became clear to me that substance abuse was often just one part of a much larger story.

That experience helped shape one of my core beliefs: I don’t judge anyone who walks through my door. I also don’t believe in assigning labels. If someone wants to identify as an alcoholic, that’s their choice—but it’s not for me to decide. My role is to listen, to challenge, and to support people in moving forward without constantly being pulled back by their past.

Life is a journey, and sometimes a tree falls in your path. Standing still won’t help. You’ve got to find a way around it—or move it—so you can keep walking forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where I am today hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been meaningful. Before opening my private practice, I worked for an agency where I gradually built strong relationships with individuals and professionals in the community. Many of those connections have continued to support me by referring clients and spreading the word about my work—largely because I approach therapy with honesty and a genuine commitment to helping people improve their lives.

At the time, I had no intention of starting a private practice. I was simply doing what came naturally: being approachable, reaching out to others, and doing my best to make a positive difference. I never set out to build something for myself; I just focused on doing good work—and over time, that work led me here.

That said, I’m human. I still question myself daily—wondering if I said the right thing, if I showed up the way I needed to. Being fully on my own in this practice is both empowering and challenging. I’m grateful to have a circle of fellow therapists I can lean on—whether it’s for advice, support, or just a space to process a tough day.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that in caring for others, I must also take care of myself. It’s a balance I continue to work on, but I know it’s essential—not just for me, but for the people who trust me to walk alongside them on their own journeys.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Embracing Life Therapeutics, we strive to create a welcoming space where individuals can show up as they are—free to express their thoughts, explore their passions, ask meaningful questions, and be truly heard. Whether you’re working through challenges or simply seeking deeper self-understanding, this is a place of support and growth.

What sets me apart is my diverse background working with people from all walks of life—varied cultures, communities, and life experiences. My time in the criminal justice system, working with both adults and juveniles, has given me a unique perspective. I believe deeply in the power of change and second chances—people are more than their past choices, and transformation is always possible.

Most of all, I genuinely love people. I’m passionate about getting to know each person’s story and being there for them in moments when they need support the most.

Any big plans?
My plans are to continue doing what I love to do which is getting to know people from all walks of life and helping them in any way I can therapeutically.
