Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolette Paige.
Nicolette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started when I was born – on a Monday afternoon on the day of the Pisces full moon. All of the energies of the planets that were aligned during that time, in addition to all of the prayers of my ancestors, had finally come together to create a beautiful bright light that would be birthed into the physical world as me.
I was 8 years old when I began tapping into my spiritual gifts. At that age, I could not articulate clearly what was happening, all I knew is I felt energies deeply, I was being contacted by spirits, and my intuition was fine-tuned. I was in 5th grade when I got my first book that taught about astrology & numerology, and before this, I had already become drawn to the elements of the earth and the energies within them.
At the same time, I began practicing what I would later learn is called manifesting. I recall a box I made that I kept under my bed; within it was a folded-up piece of paper I wrote to God of what my biggest dreams and desires were. It was always placed in the middle of the box next to a rock I found in the shape of a crescent moon and was always surrounded by 12 dragon tear stones that I glued eyeballs on to. On the sidewalls of the box were words I wrote to help add power to the piece of paper, and thus was my first time practicing a spirituality that I still have yet to name, but is similar to hoodoo, Curanderismo, and other walks of life alike.
I was raised Christian, but never fully conformed to it. There were a lot of useful values and principles I learned, but the many questions I had about what I was being taught often left me feeling confused and frightened. My parents nourished my spiritual gifts the best they could, but at times I could tell they were concerned that I could possibly be mislead down a road that would cause a disturbance in my soul. Throughout middle school and high school, I began practicing Witchcraft and divination through the use of tarot cards. I did this very privately in the comfort of my home. I learned of candle magic, the four directions and their elements, color correspondences, conjuring, dream interpretation, and other mystical beliefs alike. I do remember a time I was convinced I would invoke demons if I kept up my practice, and so I took my spellbook and burned it at the crossroads of a railroad track – the same railroad track that I would later in life be collecting bones and railroad spikes from for particular spells for clients of my professional spiritual healing business. Wow! As I grew older I began studying other religions, a few of my favorite being Buddhism, Hinduism, and the spiritual walk of Rastafari. I eventually began to believe that all religions are but an extension of that which we come from, full of many different truths and teachings. I believe in a Creator, a God that resides within all living things, and I believe there are many different spirits that can assist or harm us.
I finally accepted my spirituality for what it was when I was in my early 20s and became more vocal about it. At this time, I had the full belief in spirits due to undeniable paranormal experiences I had in my teens that were also witnessed by others. This confirmed to myself that I wasn’t crazy after all. Following this would be many more paranormal experiences that would lead me to eventually help others to contact their deceased loved ones and teach them how to better understand the spirit realm.
It will take many hours for me to describe my full story for there is much to be said. I often talk about my experiences and the spiritual work I do when speaking at events. I also just opened the first Soul Child Awakenings School Of Spiritual Science where I will be teaching others the knowledge I have on advanced spellwork, ancestral healing, inner-child healing, sacred medicines, herbalism, practical magic and the psychology behind it, African spiritual sciences and Curanderismo. In summary, I am led by the guidance of my ancestors, my own innerstanding of self, the sun, the moon, mother nature, her waters, and the healing love that resides in my soul that fuels all that I do. I have spent a great deal of time studying and practicing African & Indigenous spiritual sciences such as Hoodoo, Vodun, Ifa, Brujeria, and Curanderismo. I am a firm believer that the most powerful magic one can tap into is their own.
My ancestors advised me for many years to be careful of spells I learn from books for they are not my own. Once I fully innerstood and honored this guidance is when I began creating the most powerful and successful spells I’ve ever known. The magic was inside of me all along.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was in my early twenties when I began being more transparent about my spirituality. In the most scornful ways, I was often referred to as a “witch’ and was accused of invoking evil forces to assist me in my “witchy’ life. I would be blamed for the misfortunes of others and feared once more people found out about my practices. It is true, I am very powerful, but never would I cast ill will towards another- it has always been against my morality.
These accusations saddened me and unfortunately caused a lot of disturbances in my intimate relationships. Sometimes I would be accused of putting spells on men when the reality was we were just young lovers doing the best we could to be human. I never believed in using spells to make someone love me anyway, that is unnatural and toxic. What I did do with my powers to the men in my life who were once my lovers was pray for them and educate them on herbalism and my belief in the spirit realm.
Eventually, I learned how to be happier with myself and ignore the judgments of others, and I began embracing the term “witch” as a part of my identity. Now I am often referred to as Bruja, Priestess, or healer. I accept these descriptions, but if asked I usually tell people I am a curandera, which is a Mexican healer who uses a variety of modalities such as herbalism, rituals, therapeutic touch, psychology, divination, energy healing, and spirit work to assist others on their life path journey. Considering I am initiated into the Ifa religion, where other religions such as Vodun & Santeria originate from, I am also referred to as an Omo Orisa, which means “Child Of The Orisa”. My spiritual name in Ifa is Larada Dìdan Ìmolęìna Aye Balewa, which means, “She Whose Healing Shines Light On The World”.
Another challenge I have faced is learning to use my own medicine on myself. What I mean by this is at times it can be easier for me to help others than it is to help myself. I can be very stubborn and not so wise, believe it or not. Luckily, I always overcome challenges, and the outcome is me evolving into a better version of myself than before.
