Meet Nia Marie of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Marie

Hi Nia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Miami, FL before moving to Kanas City in 2012. Growing up I knew I always wanted to work in Fashion. I attended Stephen’s College, majoring in Fashion Marketing and Management. After college, I went on to work in fields not related to fashion before working at a start up company as a photographer. I always loved doing photography (especially fashion/ portrait photography). Shortly after working at the start up company, I started my own photography business. I currently work with local brands to help them with their social media presence.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were a lot of learning curves along the way when starting my own photography business. While I learned a bit about how to take good photos in school. I learned a lot on my own through personal experiences. As well as the business side of things, I had to learn how to set up my taxes for my business, how to find clients and how to run a business overall.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently mostly do photography, but recently I have been doing more videography work. I’ve really been enjoying the video content that I have created recently (mostly personal projects). Some of my favorite work includes the Reels that I have made in the past for Clients.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
As a kid I grew up with my mom, my grandmother and myself. For a period of time I had a best friend who would come over to my house everyday after school. Since my mom worked during the day (and sometimes nights as an on call nurse) , my grandmother was my primary care-taker. Living in an apartment and not really having a backyard. My mother and grandmother would allow for my best friend and I to set up my tent in our living room. This would be our little clubhouse where we’d watch movies from the inside of the tent, sneak in snacks from the kitchen, do arts and crafts projects, and of course “go camping”. My dog and cats would also accompany us in our games and hangout with us in the tent while watching movies and eating spicy chicken wings with Hawaiian Punch.
