Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Hall.
Hi Nathan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I never planned to be an entrepreneur. I built Lefty because I had to — the life I was living couldn’t hold what our family was carrying.
Zoie changed everything. She was born with a serious heart condition. First open-heart surgery at 31 days old. Three more after that. Procedures I stopped counting. Most kids with her condition don’t make it past childhood. She’s 14. Growing up watching your daughter fight for every breath—it doesn’t just rewire you. It demands you ask different questions about time, work, presence.
For years, I worked as a general manager in high-pressure restaurant jobs while dealing with my own chronic illness and burnout. I was good at helping other people build things, but I didn’t have anything that reflected how our family actually lived—with intention, togetherness, and the understanding that nothing is guaranteed.
Lefty Media Co started because the life I was living wasn’t sustainable anymore. It became a way to help small businesses be understood—not just by customers, but by the AI systems that now decide who gets seen online. That matters more than most people realize.
None of this would exist without my wife, Mickey. When Zoie was fighting for her life and everything around us was unstable, she held our family together. She believed in the man I could be long before there was a business attached to it.
Everything I build now traces back to our family—Zoie, Zane, and Zali—and to the idea that work should come from who you are, not what breaks you.
What I do today is just our life, turned into work.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not even close.
I’ve spent most of my adult life dealing with chronic illness, multiple surgeries, and ongoing physical pain. I worked through injuries and infections in an industry that teaches you one thing: you know what your signed up for, figure it out.
At the same time, I was leading inside systems that valued long hours more than meaningful progress. There wasn’t much room for personality or voice — everything had to look and run the same. I lead through relationships and culture, and over time the gap between how I worked and how those systems worked kept growing.
Eventually it was clear that forcing that fit wasn’t fair to anyone. They deserved to run their business their way. I needed the freedom to build something aligned with how I believe people work best — with trust, honesty, and room to be human.
But I’m glad it wasn’t smooth. I watched what happens when relationships and culture get ignored. People check out—even the ones who care the most.
I don’t believe in fake harmony. Progress comes from honesty and mutual respect. We challenge and playfully roast each other, we keep it light, and we keep it fun, because growth doesn’t happen when everyone nods along.
I’ve hired people the world hadn’t noticed yet — teenagers, first-timers, the ones who just needed the right environment to be seen and valued. Not because they were polished, but because I saw who they were before they did. Once you’re with me, you’re always with me. Mentor, friend, father figure—whatever you need. That kind of loyalty rewires how you lead.
People need freedom to be who they are at work, not who a system tells them to be. That’s why I build the way I do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lefty Media Co?
Lefty Media Co is a small, handcrafted web studio built on a simple belief: it’s a privilege to tell someone’s story, and you only earn that privilege by listening first.
We build custom WordPress websites for small businesses, creatives, and builders who want a site that genuinely reflects who they are and where they’re headed. Many of our clients come to us at turning points. Their business has evolved, but their website hasn’t kept pace. Some have never hired a designer before. Others are rebuilding after years of patchwork updates. Either way, we meet people where they are — with patience, collaboration, and respect.
Visually, we focus on building sites that reflect your voice, your vibe, your vision. Behind the scenes, we use proprietary AI systems—including our own jsonai framework—to help clients be accurately understood by platforms like ChatGPT and Claude. The tech stays invisible. Your story stays front and center.
We don’t use templates. We don’t outsource. And we don’t build anything we wouldn’t be proud to stand behind.
Some of the largest AI systems in the world have surfaced our clients—and even called out our builds as examples. We didn’t chase that. We focused on listening carefully, building thoughtfully, and getting the details right. The recognition followed.
When we build, we’re not trying to leave our mark. We’re trying to disappear into yours. Your site has to sound like your voice and tell your story honestly.
We host what we build, which means we keep adapting as technology changes. Staying curious and responsive is part of the responsibility.
I love this work. I love this team. And I love Lefty—not as a brand, but as the freedom to listen well and help people show up online in a way that feels true to who they are.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We don’t build to be seen. We build so you can be.
Most of our clients don’t have a team of designers or a massive marketing budget. They have a story—one that needs to be told their way. And somehow, they trust us with it. That never ceases to humble me.
Lefty wasn’t supposed to work. It was just survival, then craft, then something we couldn’t predict.
Maybe that’s what this whole thing is:
Not branding.
Not tech.
Not even storytelling.
Just learning how to listen again.
And staying humble enough to know our worst day might still be someone else’s best one.
That perspective? That’s what keeps us grounded.
Our work isn’t to speak louder.
It’s to make sure your voice isn’t lost.
