Meet Michea Baytops of O’Dew Wish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michea Baytops

Hi Michea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my craft in 2014 with body butters. I have sons with skin conditions, one of the conditions is eczema and steroid creams weren’t very helpful. To add insult to injury, they were not a healthy or safe option. I knew there had to be something God made vs manmade that could help so I took a trip down research lane and dove headfirst into this rabbit hole of information. I was amazed at what I had found. To add another layer of icing to the cake, I love creating things! I took what I learned and whipped up my first batch of body butter. At that time, my son with the worst eczema was undergoing a flare up. He became my first tester. His skin not only began to get better; it began to heal. It was at the moment; I knew I was onto something. I went back down research lane and began making all the products we would need for not only our skin but also our hair. I gave products to our family and friends. After receiving their opinions about those products, in 2016, I decided that I wanted to offer any family that wanted another option, a better option, my plant-based creations. That is when O’Dew Wish was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been all rainbows and sunshine. Being an introverted woman, the creative being that I am, and a mother homeschooling 7 sons, I struggled. I struggled with not only managing time, but also with networking, marketing, and knowing when enough was enough. I wanted to create everything, and I ended with way more expenses than I had income. With that combination of things, I had closed O’Dew Wish for a time. But God would not let it end there. My best friend stayed on me about recreating my products. Year after year her pleas/suggestions went ignored. Then, the summer of 2023, after she had started a business of her own, she was going to attend the NFL’s Professional Football Players Mother’s Association 25th Anniversary, and she asked if I would create products to include in the mother’s gift bags, so I did. At the last minute she suggested I attend as well, to make a longer story shorter, I attended, and I will say being back in product creating mode was such a joy. I had not realized how much I missed it. Revamped and reopen, O’Dew Wish came back to life in 2023. Networking is still an obstacle for me, but I am working on ways to step out of my comfort zone for the success of this business and the livelihood of my little ones.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
O’Dew Wish is a plant-based hair, skin, perfumery, and pet care small business. It was started with God’s creation in mind. I wanted to provide safer, and healthier options for people to care for themselves and their pets. It brings me great joy to know that I have helped someone in some form or fashion. I honestly am not sure what sets me apart from other small businesses. I would like to believe that all small business owners do what they do because they love it and would like to provide a product or service to others that they will be happy with and will help them in some way. There is enough room for all of us. What sets us apart from larger companies is my business focal point is not dollar signs. We strive to make products with the betterment of individuals health in mind.

Our products range from body butters, body oils, body scrubs, body sprays, body wash, perfumes, face oils, face scrub, face serums, undereye treatment, clay masks, acne treatment, facial cleanser, lip balms, lip oil, lip scrub, curly hair cream, wash and go cream, hair conditioner, hot oil treatments, deep conditioning bars, beard oil, beard butter, beard wash, and more.
