Meet Martin Msuya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Msuya.

Hi Martin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I Martin Ibrahim Msuya was born on the 13th day of August of the year 1984. I went to ordinary level primary school at Majengo primary school and completed in October 1998. I joined my A- level secondary school at Moshi technical school up to 2002, after that I wasn’t able to go to college due to the fact that my parents were financially an able to support me. Therefore, I adapted myself in various activities but at the end, I was able to push on through starting as a porter up Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. My savings accumulated made me enter the wildlife college for two years and made me achieve my Diploma in the flora and fauna in 2008. I resumed my porter position for a while, and sometimes took the position of the cook/chef. This took up to 2012 when I joined a month course with Tanzania national park in Kilimanjaro and got a full authorized mountain tour guide license. After that, I started operating as a mountain guide and safari driver guide with full confidence! To achieve this role of being a guide was a tough road that led me to start thinking of starting my own company to tell you the truth, I was moved by past hustling experience and come to the point where I wanted to help porters and the local communities. I have been able to reach out and support young girls in my community by providing them with monthly pads, orphans, and the old age centers. At the present am organizing my own Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, Safari, culture tourism, and community support programs. In truth all my clients where mostly through my Instagram page known as @tourkilimanjaro but at present and in the future, I will operating through my own local company 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙠𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 (ETA) and I believe I would be able to reach out to many in need and provide employment. I wish to achieve more from your platform and others who are willing to work and support us

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth passage at all! I passed a hard time that I can’t narrate all cause it’s painful reciting the past memories there were challenging times when I thought I couldn’t come out of them, for instance, there was a six Trekking up Kilimanjaro and it was April and my mom was ill and hospitalized I had to climb carrying 30kgs and my rack sack in the heavy rains up and down to be able to clear her hospital bills. Our family was a low-class family and I being the firstborn having a two sisters looking upon me, their suffering was my suffering. My daddy was a farmer and my mom a housewife and farmer. The ideas of helping young girls came from the experience of my two sisters who had a hard time during their menstrual period where they had to quit school and sometimes cut pieces of clothing as pads so as to secure themselves and attend school. I started with a very low pay and was able to support my parents with the farm expenses and pushed on to the family house, which was a mud and thatch three rooms, and built a brick four-bedroom, lounge, and dining room house. In fact, I have and still I’m taking all responsibilities of my family although I have my own family with three kids. My client concerns went more than my family, the community surrounding me saw my achievements and I had to put and hand out to the disabled aged and orphans. In short, I can’t put all the details cause is not easy to reveal everything in word.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional mountain and safari tour guide who organize mountain trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru with Safaris through my Instagram page @tourkilimanjaro and my website Explore Trekking Adventure. My specialization is in the tourism industry in Tanzania. I’m proud of being a supporter to my local community by providing employment. What makes me different from others is the fact that I accept my responsibilities to support others where others can’t.

What matters most to you? Why?
I wish to be competent in the tourism industry so as to increase the employment level of my local community. As to why I want supporters, tour agents who are willing to work with me to achieve my goal.
