Meet Marrissa Valles of Make Me Pretty Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marrissa Valles.

Hi Marrissa , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve known since I was 15 exactly what I wanted to do in life and it was to be a makeup artist / cosmetologist and run a full service beauty bar . It’s kinda crazy how early I had the vision. I finally graduated high school and I wanted to get my associates and then attend beauty school. I was convinced on getting that done first and then get a cosmetology license. Things didn’t work out as I expected/ wanted it to go .. I decided to drop out of college. I later worked 3 jobs to pay school off and life kinda just happened. I had my first baby at 21. At that point really I didn’t focus going back to school but I knew deep down I still did but just wasn’t the right time. Years go by I’m on my 3rd pregnancy , im working at a call center I had been at a few years and it was a good job loved it especially the benefits. In that time I felt secure at the moment , but then the whole call center got a notice we were shutting down . Not only was that hard for me wrap my mind around I was 7 months pregnant ! 2 weeks later covid hits and I’m just worried what to do about my future? Especially with a newborn, Well one random night during Covid something spoke to me I cant remember if I heard or seen a post that said “2020 was the best time to start a business or go back to school “. I started thinking hard and questioning should I become a makeup artist and start a business? Or go to back to school? I mean everyone at the call center always encouraged me to do makeup including one supervisor who really just always motivated and pushed to see me become a Makeup Artist!

I decided to finally go back to school in fall of 2020 and that’s where I actually decided I didn’t want to be a cosmetologist. I wanted to become an esthetician once I started practicing facials my love for skincare grew but my passion for makeup was even more stronger I was constantly practicing on myself to be better and the girls at school ! They let me practice on them, which was really a good experience since I did a wide variety of different complexions and skin types. I then officially announced Make Me pretty Aesthetics business in 2021 and started taking clients and doing weddings. I later graduated and started working at sephora and studied for the esthetic exams test immediately after graduating and was licensed before the new year ! 2022 I decide to rent a studio in Westport with a fellow esthetician friend ; we got our first studio which felt amazing but scary at the same time ! Our first new space was literally everything I wanted /actually manifested . It was exactly how I wanted it to look. On the other hand I was still unsure who was going to support my business? I honestly had a lot of faith and gave it to god and it worked out !

I’ve since worked with two other local makeup teams who have molded me into the bridal makeup artist I am and i have grown immensely in my skills / speed as a MUA since with both those teams.

I’ve invested more into my education by new services such as hylauron pen needles lip filler and Lash extensions! I’m in my 2nd studio now located in midtown offering a variety of services! I’ve worked so hard all through my 20’s as a young mom of 3 just trying her best to create not just a future for myself but a business I want to grow and pass on to my kids. Never thought I’d be living my dream but I trusted the process no mater how long it took but I look back now at my 15 year old just being proud of me ! There’s been many obstacles in life but you can’t let that make you! Mindset over fear , but also faith can bring you a long way. I’m living the reality of my vision and it’s only the beginning stages of its growth in the beauty industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say once I officially put my mind on entrepreneur mode I don’t let anything / anyone get in the way. Of course it was never easy , I’m a mom of 3 lol I got a lot going on but I would say, I also focused on the positives , I pray on it and kept going hard because no one else is going to do it for me but me

As you know, we’re big fans of Make Me Pretty Aesthetics . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to support my business is always recommendations and word of mouth that’s just the best way that works and I get majority of new clients by just recommendations. Of course on social media you can share my work and like/ interact with my post any kinda of support is always appreciated.

I’m always down to collaborate and create some new content ! I’ve collaborated with a few photographers in the past and actually was featured in a magazine thanks to photography by Drokc photography .
