Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallery Mazza.
Hi Mallery, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a model and influencer, my confidence in my height and powerful presence blossomed during my college years as a lifeguard and swim instructor. While growing up, I always dreamed of being a lifeguard. I had never seen a plus-size lifeguard before, and when I was 20 years old I decided to sign up for the training knowing that I may be judged extra for my size in this role. I was always a strong swimmer with a massive passion for the water, and I knew I was capable. After the intense testing of my physical ability and life-saving skills, I became the representation of a curvy lifeguard that I wish I had seen while growing up. I thrived in the water, in the sun, and even at a year-round indoor pool – protecting lives and coaching others on having confidence in the water. Success in this field & spending every day in a swimsuit with many eyes on me, I lived out every day fully owning my curves and presence. Nobody should feel the need to justify why they’re enjoying their body, why they’re wearing the string bikini, or why they’re enjoying every movement of their beautiful curves. I believe that God made us in His image and that our bodies are a blessing to embrace. Amid this thriving part of my life, I met my now husband, Matt. Matt was also a lifeguard, so he got to know me while I strolled around in a little swimsuit daily. Ever since the beginning of our relationship, Matt has adored and supported my personality, my curves, and the power that I harness through it all.
In 2021, I decided to pursue one of my long-time goals of casting to model in Kansas City Fashion Week (KCFW). Being tall, many kind people always encouraged me to model. KCFW has always been in my mind, and I finally decided to make it a reality. Matt would watch and help me practice my runway walk in my heels out in the parking lot of his old apartment. I focused on the fact that I could accomplish anything that I set out to do and didn’t give up on. Little did I know that walking my first runway would open up a whole new world of even more confidence and possibilities.
A few months before the first runway I modeled in, a TikTok video of mine went very viral – currently sitting at 11.5 Million views. This video is of me surprising Matt with a bikini on, and the bikini has his face printed all over it while we were on a boat. This video, reaching millions of people, launched my career as an influencer representing curves, swimming, couple content with Matt, travel, and enjoying life’s details. Thanks to studying information on the internet and learning alongside my business-savvy little brother, I learned how to work brand deals on social media. I have collaborated with numerous swimsuit brands from the U.S.A. to Australian companies, focusing on my main passion, swimming. I have also worked with many other brands in clothing, sunscreen, skincare, and even an inflatable paddle board company!
Growing my social media audience has opened many doors and connections with traditional modeling jobs. Some of my main goals at the moment are to find an agency that best represents me and to walk the runway in shows such as Miami Swim Week, DC Swim Week, and New York Fashion Week. My top goal is to become a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition model! Sports Illustrated Swimsuit perfectly captures womanhood’s power and beauty and embraces all our strengths and details. Sports Illustrated, I know you’re ready for a plus-size Baywatch moment! Expanding on my love of the water, I am an environmentalist! My degree was in Environmental Studies, I worked as a state park Naturalist, and I am currently a Water Pollution Specialist!
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road could be smoother, and for me, a big bump in the road is getting overwhelmed with too much inspiration and ideas, which sometimes I put off even getting started. My best advice is to do it even if you’re not ready. Do it before you find the perfect outfit, look a certain way, earn a certain amount, meet that dream significant other, and reach a particular destination. Just stop waiting! If it is something that you desire so deeply that you think about it every day, long term — that means it is meant to be. I saw a quote the other day that said, “You want it so bad because you already have it in the future” (author unknown), which has stuck with me. Of course, people of all sizes have had all kinds of bumps in the road throughout history- what we need to focus on is what we can do, enjoy, and accomplish. We are in charge of our lives!
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a model and content creator. My main passions are swimming, nature, fashion, marriage, faith, travel, culture, wandering, and having fun. I am most proud of my ability to put myself out there to share my confidence, thoroughly enjoy my life, and inspire others to do the same! What sets me apart from others is that I have a deep connection to appreciating life’s details and a curiosity to explore everything available.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson on my journey is that it will not happen until you start. To strengthen that, your goals will also not grow until you stay consistent!
