Meet Madison Sha of Kansas City, MO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Sha

Hi Madison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I knew movement would be my life’s passion. Dance and music were integral parts of my upbringing, and I explored the world through various forms of movement. After college, I pursued a professional dance career in Los Angeles. This equipped with the skills to become a strong instructor with clear cues and a confident teaching style. My ability to watch and understand movement was at its peak as the world was changing.

The pandemic drastically shifted the landscape of the dance world, halting performances and instruction, school, and physical contact all together. I shifted to working with a talent agency on TikTok, and due to stay-at-home orders, I started teaching fitness classes online. My following grew, opening doors to the fitness industry.

When I returned to Kansas City, it felt natural to continue fitness in person so I pursued it further. I loved taking infrared yoga classes and I missed being able to go during the pandemic. I use to take a class at Sweatheory in Hollywood that really stood out to me, it was called BodyBurn. I loved the teacher because she was so in-sync with the music. It really inspired me to teach in a way that highlights the music in every movement. Beat Based fitness is really functional as it allows for intentional and consistent movement that is exciting and satisfying to the brain. These aspects of connecting movement to the beat create neroplastisity in the brain. This is the ability of the nervous system to change its activity in response to intrinsic or extrinsic stimuli. This allows me to help people really think about body and brain connection In a different way.

When I found out that Sweatheory was coming to Kansas City, I was confident it would be embraced by the city. Over the past 5 years, my movement community has flourished within this special space. I’m grateful it has allowed me to highlight this unique method. At Sweatheory I teach Body Burn, Hot Mat Pilates, TRX Pilates, Roll & Release, Breath & Flow, and Sound Bath workshops. You can find me at other studios in the KC area teaching classes, hosting events, and servicing 1:1 clients.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had the privilege of teaching in diverse environments and always welcome new opportunities. It’s always an honor to be invited to join new communities and projects. It took some time to figure out my rhythm and where to spend my time. I also struggled during the pandemic with shifting my trajectory from professional dance to fitness and yoga full time. However, once I settled in I realized the transition was something that would give me the best of both worlds.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My dance background is integral to my brand identity and what I offer. It brings a unique “dance-fit fusion” element that I sometimes forget isn’t commonplace. Thanks to my physical awareness, I’ve been told that I have a knack for explaining movement clearly and effectively. Clients often appreciate the use of tempo and music I offer in my sessions. I break down form in a way that fosters conversation and a close-knit community. This creates a space for accountability and support within the studio walls.

My primary focus is helping women improve their mobility, pelvic floor, and core strength. While I’m a Pilates-based fitness instructor, my distinguishing feature is the high-energy workout method I’ve created. This method provides structured consistency, enabling clients to gain strength and improve their form over a month. I intentionally use music with specific frequencies and motivating messages to enhance the experience.

What’s next?
I recently completed my Pilates certification. This has been a significant shift in my five-year fitness career, redirecting my focus from traditional strength training. I’m so grateful for the mentorship and support that inspired me to blend my dance and fitness backgrounds through Pilates. I’m loving this new direction and excited to continue growing in this space.

While I cherish the connections made through in-person teaching and intend to continue serving my community in that capacity, I also recognize the opportunity to reach a wider audience online. I have felt the continued support and encouragement of my clients. I’ve been hesitant to transition into the online space, but I’m excited to be expanding my offerings to include online classes this year. Tuesday’s at 6:00pm, you can find the link for these classes in my linktree.
