Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelyn Latshaw

Hi Madelyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I knew that I always wanted to be in the beauty industry as my mom is a cosmetologist, and I basically grew up in the salon with her! Now my little sister is also a stylist & it’s so fun on the off chances we work altogether!

I moved to Manhattan KS to attend cosmetology school after my freshman year of college & immediately after graduating, I moved to KC. I worked in the River Market assisting for 6mo. I received so much education while at that salon & then after 3 years – I moved to a new salon that was opened by the stylist I assisted!

After lot of life changes (marriage & a baby), I decided to go out on my own & start my own business! It’s definitely been challenging but the exact move that was right for me! Now I am at American Honey Hair Co. working along side the coolest people. The vibes in our salon are so fun but also chill! I also do wedding/special event makeup & hair in addition to being in the salon during the week!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Balancing being a mom & wife while also being a business owner has definitely been the most challenging! I’ve always been someone that enjoyed working a lot & it was kind of my identity, so when I had to pivot my focus on my family first it was a big adjustment!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
During the week I work behind the chair doing color/cuts/extension work & for events I do styling & makeup!

I specialize in dimensional color & blonding services & extensions. My continuing education & knowledge in color & placement is truly what I feel like sets me apart! Also building the relationships with my clients and truly knowing what style/color will fit their lifestyle & personality best!

I love the opportunity to be a part of a special day for someone whether that be a wedding, shower, or just a celebration! That’s why special event styling & makeup is so great!

How do you think about luck?
I have really lucked out with the people I have met in my time in this industry! Both clients & other stylists/artists! I’ve been given some really great opportunities through those who I’ve met!
