Today we’d like to introduce you to Lo Cowan

Hi Lo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally from California, I moved to Kansas City just before the pandemic. At first, I definitely felt a bit stuck, but now I’m so grateful for how everything unfolded. I’ve found my place here—embracing the queer community, building meaningful connections, and now working to help bring us all together through “Where To Find Us.” It’s been an incredible ride, and I’m so excited to keep growing and celebrating with this amazing city!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m incredibly grateful to work in media and marketing—honestly, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Like any journey, there have been challenges, but having Tiffany as my co-founder and friend has made it all the more rewarding. We’ve built something amazing together, and I’m excited for what’s next!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As the Content Manager for Do816, I have the privilege of promoting all things KC year-round. The connections I’ve made through this position have been invaluable, and I’ve learned so much along the way. As a queer Black woman, I enjoy a good night out, but my true passion lies in fostering a space where the queer community can connect in a safe, healthy environment. It’s not about the party for me—it’s about building meaningful connections, meeting new friends, and finding like-minded people in an atmosphere that feels like home.

I believe we’ve created just that: a fun, safe place to celebrate each other, get to know one another through the lens of our friends, and build those important connections.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My email is definitely my most used app—if I could get an award for ‘Most Dedicated to My Inbox,’ I’d win hands down.

But, of course, Instagram is my go-to for connecting with cool people and stalking cute dogs, and TikTok is my savior on those days when my brain needs a break (or a meme overload). As for resources that help me do my best in life? I’ll be honest—just the pure, unfiltered chaos of scrolling through endless apps seems to do the trick!
