Meet Laura Klostermann of Leawood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Klostermann.

Hi Laura, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Through my life, I have always had a passion for helping others. This drive led me to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. My first post graduate position was a Child Support Investigator for the State of Missouri where I worked within my community supporting families. I was honored to become the Employee of the Month, Employee of the Quarter, Missouri State Rookie of the Year and Missouri State Employee of the Year. My next goal was to become a mom. I was fortunate enough to have three healthy children that have become incredible adults (now ages 22, 25, and 27 years old). This was by far my proudest accomplishment. My ambition to do more for myself and family, prompted me to return to school to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During this time, I served as a Student Nurse Representative and Student Nurse President. Reflecting, I still cannot believe I completed this path with three small children at home all under the age of 6. Following graduation, I began to work at an Operating Room Nurse at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. My position was that of an Operating Room Circulator Nurse in General Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Plastics, Neurosurgery, ENT, and Cardiology as well as a Surgical Scrub Nurse for General Surgery. During my tenure I was an Employee Preceptor, Magnet Ambassador, Advance Council Board Member and Co-Chair, and Unit Council Member for the OR. I thought I had found the position where I would remain until retirement, when one day one of the anesthesiologists, that I greatly admired as well as feared, pulled me aside and told me that she thought I should return to school to further my education to become a Nurse Practitioner. I had not thought about that path, until she planted that seed, It meant so much to me that she saw something in me and felt the need to encourage me to do more. After reflecting on her words, I opted to return to school to become a Family Nurse Practitioner., graduating with Academic Honors I continued my current role at that time and upon graduation became a Urological Surgery Nurse Practitioner at Children’s Mercy. This path continued for several years before I switched roles from a pediatric caretaker to an adult caretaker with Kansas City Urology Care – Oncology and Urology. I remained in this role for five years, then opting to once again return to school to obtain a Post Masters Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. With the demanding hours as a APRN in Urology and going back to school, I felt as though I needed to cut back and be more present for my family and myself. In September 2021, I took a position at Regain Functional Medicine and Aesthetics, where I remain today, as a Nurse Practitioner, where I manage patients for hormone replacement, sexual function concerns, weight loss, hair loss & restoration and aesthetic injections. In September 2022, I graduated and became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and began to work Midwest Recovery Centers PRN, helping individuals overcome addictions and mental health challenges. These two positions awarded me a great sense of pride as I was able to see the positive outcomes of many of our patients. I remained at Midwest Recovery Centers until early June 2025 focusing my full attention on my current position at Regain Functional Medicine and Aesthetics at the Director of Functional Medicine.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the issues I struggled with along the way included self-confidence. I would find myself often questioning whether I was doing enough as an employee, while trying to remain a positive influence and remain present in my family’s lives. Looking back to where I started and where I am today, I am proud that with the support of my family and friends, that I continued to push myself because I am very proud of what I have accomplished.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As the Director of Functional Medicine at Regain Functional Medicine and Aesthetics, I work with women and men throughout the United States, helping them feel better from the inside out. This profession has allowed me to see the patients from the beginning, where we address their issues and needs, and watch them transform themselves into happy, healthy participants in their own lives. It is an extremely rewarding career. I achieve this goal by helping my patients attain hormonal balance, restore sexual function, aid with pelvic floor issues, regenerate hair growth, manage them through their weight loss, provide a more youthful complexion by softening facial expressions, as well as help improve overall health and wellness.
