Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle + Nicole Hill.
Hi Kyle + Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
With a combined 25 years of experience, you could say that both Kyle + I had a knack for the home world at an early age. Kyle, the real estate and renovation guru, would bargain deals with his mom to “buy” back her own groceries and I, the creative mind, would be rearranging our home furniture and decor or painting my room quite frequently at a young age. Our business together, Hill Homes KC, started before we even knew it. Kyle’s first home was a family neighborhood fixer-upper and we did just that. It was our first joint flip before we got married and then on to the next after our wedding. Our 1st home together that we gutted and made our own. This is when we knew we had something and could start making a profit on what we loved. Here is when we began helping friends and family members renovate and decorate. Shortly after Kyle came up with the great idea of creating the whole package and got his real estate and general contracting licenses. Now we can help a client curate a space from the very beginning.
Buy (sell), renovate, decorate.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Does anything go smoothly these days? Absolutely not. I wish it was what everyone sees on HGTV, but so many more obstacles arise than you plan for, especially in the beginning. With that being said, those obstacles are what help us learn + grow.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
First and foremost, do not be afraid to reach out and ask questions. Whether it is about Buying or Selling your home, looking to build or renovate, or simply just updating your decor – ask for help…don’t assume anything is out of reach – financially or otherwise. We hear too often that people shy away from a good fixer-upper bc they need help, but financially they think it’s too expensive. Or others think they can’t update a bedroom because hiring an interior decorator is out of the budget. That’s not always the case. Yes, this is our job, but we are here to bring our client’s ideas full circle, whether that be a small one off project or a home that we continue to work on over time.
Our company is multifaceted. We are most known for our crisp, minimal spaces that grow with clients over time. This can be in a space you currently have or a project you need help buying and renovating. We truly are a one-stop shop.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Kyle’s | I remember when my parents bought our childhood home of 24 years, I was around 8 years old at the time. “Ice Ice Baby” was very popular and would be blaring throughout the house as we renovated and I would follow the contractors around for hours on end. This is when I began assembling my own tool collection….”borrowed” from my dad’s tools.
Nicole’s | I’m not sure this is my favorite (or most proud) moment, but as it pertains to interiors, I remember my mom allowing me to actually take over my room renovation around 8th grade or so. Before that, I always had an opinion on what “theme” we had going on in my room, but this was my chance to shine! I got to pick out the colors, paint, furniture, etc. Picture this…white walls with excessive hot pink sponge painting, white metal bed frame, and a blow-up couch!
My poor boys…. they will never get the chance to “renovate” their bedrooms!
