Meet Kristin Hathaway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Hathaway.

Hi Kristin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started taking photos when I was about 16. My parents bought me a very nice film camera and I started learning all I could, even taking some photography classes in college. I always wanted to have a photography business, but raising kids and being a military spouse were my first priority. We settled in the Kansas City area in 2012 and I started taking photos again.

Since then, my business has grown from a hobby into something that I do to bless people. I love it when people think they aren’t photogenic but then end up blown away when they see themselves through my lens!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being a professional photographer has always been a dream, but traveling from place to place with the military meant waiting to fulfill that dream. Another recent obstacle has been covid. Many of my wedding and other events had to be rescheduled or canceled.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Karisma Photography is known mostly for family photography, as well as maternity/newborn photography. The moments I capture are of a special place in time. My hope is that one day when people look back at their photos, the memory of that time will bring a smile to their faces.

I specialize in encouraging my clients. I want them to feel good about their photo session. When we look at photos, we remember how we felt in that moment. I want my clients to remember feeling happy and encouraged when they see their photos.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think people would be surprised to know that I am an introvert. I am all about being their hype girl during the session, so they probably don’t know that it doesn’t come naturally to me.
