Today we’d like to introduce you to Koreyon Robinson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
People know me in the sports world. People know me in the business world. But what many people don’t know is that I’m also a songwriter behind the scenes.
I’ve been writing music and poetry since I was a kid, and over the years I’ve had the opportunity to write for numerous artists behind the scenes. Last year, I signed with The DISTRKCT Music label, which was a major milestone in my creative journey.
I also created an Instagram page called 4K Melodies, where I showcase songs I’ve written. The name has a deeper meaning than just “4K” or clarity. It represents my biggest inspiration—my four children, whose names all begin with the letter K.
Whether it’s through sports, business, or music, my goal has always been the same: to inspire, create, and leave a positive impact through the gifts God has given me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Every part of my journey has come with obstacles. I’ve faced financial setbacks, personal adversity, and times when people doubted my vision. As an entrepreneur, I’ve experienced the highs of building successful businesses and the lows that come with starting over and adapting. In sports, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about winning—it’s about developing people and staying committed even when the results don’t come immediately.
Personally, one of my biggest challenges has been balancing fatherhood, business, coaching, and my creative passions while continuing to bet on myself. It’s especially difficult when you have so much creativity inside of you that’s yearning to get out, but your responsibilities demand so much of your time and energy that it’s hard to fully tap into it all. There are ideas, songs, businesses, and visions constantly running through my mind, and sometimes finding the time to bring them to life is the biggest challenge.
More recently, I also faced a serious health scare when I was hospitalized with a blood clot, which reminded me how quickly life can change and how important it is to stay grateful.
Through it all, I’ve learned that obstacles aren’t roadblocks—they’re preparation. Every setback has strengthened my faith, sharpened my perspective, and given me another story to tell. That’s why I continue to create, coach, write, and build. My goal isn’t just to succeed for myself—it’s to inspire others to keep going when life gets difficult.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known more in the sports world. So this might be news to a lot of people.
What sets me apart is that I don’t feel like I simply write songs. When I hear an instrumental, it’s almost like the music writes itself through me. The melodies, concepts, and lyrics come to me effortlessly. It’s hard to explain, but I’ve always believed that’s one of the gifts God has given me. I don’t force records—I let the music speak, and I become the vessel that puts the words to it.
My writing is rooted in authenticity. I don’t chase trends or write just to make records—I write to make people feel something. Whether it’s pain, hope, love, resilience, or growth, I want listeners to hear a piece of themselves in every song.
I’m most proud of my versatility. I can write across different genres, perspectives, and emotions while making every song feel genuine. I believe the best art comes from real life, and I’ve been blessed with experiences that continue to fuel my creativity.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like most about my city is the people. Kansas City has a strong sense of community, and I’ve had the opportunity to build relationships through sports, business, and the arts. I also appreciate how supportive the city can be of local entrepreneurs and creatives. There is so much talent here, and I believe Kansas City has the potential to be a national hub for innovation, creativity, and youth development.
What I like least is that too often we spend more time criticizing our young people than investing in them. We see stories about crime, violence, and lives being lost at an alarming rate, and many people are quick to judge. But I believe real change happens when people get involved. It’s easy to comment from the sidelines; it’s much harder to step into the community, mentor a child, coach a team, or create opportunities. I’d love to see more people become part of the solution instead of simply pointing out the problems.
I’d also love to see our city continue supporting homegrown talent before the rest of the world discovers it. We have incredible young people, entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders here, and I believe there’s enough opportunity for all of us to succeed together.
