Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirk Johnson.
Hi Kirk, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up here in Stilwell, Kansas and was very active in team sports. I, unfortunately, had a pretty bad injury my junior year of high school and that is where my chiropractic journey began. I was treated by a local chiropractor and had amazing results! I pursued my athletic career and played football for Kansas State University. After K-State, I went to chiropractic college in Chesterfield, MO at Logan College of Chiropractic. I have always been into natural health, and this was a perfect fit. I came back home after graduating and started practice here in Overland Park in 2005. Over the years, my clinical knowledge has grown after treating thousands of patients from infants to professional athletes. I really focus on overall health for my patients, treating musculo-skeletal injuries but also helping patients with many different auto-immune, stress, hormone, and gut health-related problems.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is never smooth when you are self-employed and growing a business. My chiropractic and clinical knowledge coming out of school was great, however you don’t learn how to run a business. It was a bit of crash course at the start. Over the years, marketing has changed immensely. I mostly focused on patient referrals to build my practice and that approach has served me well. The one constant for me is taking time with my patients, understanding their health concerns and executing a treatment plan that will improve their health!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My practice has evolved over time like many things. I have always been involved treating athletes of all ages due to my background. In 2016 I was hired by a professional tennis player to serve as his Chiropractor during the competition year. That experience was amazing, I was able to travel all over the world and focus on his care and health. Funny fact on the ATP tour, I was called a “physio” I guess tennis terminology for a doc treating a player. I have also always treated on more of a functional healthcare approach. This is what I’ve spoken about before, but mainly using Applied Kinesiology, manual muscle testing and advanced lab work to really treat the whole person. With the information gained with that testing we can help the patient change their lifestyle, identify food sensitivities, recommend the proper nutritional supplements, and perform the perfect treatment modalities for that patient to heal.
My practice has one purpose, help each and every patient that walks in my door achieve total body health.
I also just started offering a cutting-edge therapy called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, usually referred to as Softwave therapy. I have seen some amazing results with typically difficult conditions especially plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, tennis and golfer’s elbow, knee bursitis, disc bulges, and neuropathy. This treatment has really been a game-changer for many patients experiencing musculo-skeletal injuries and pain.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My wife always makes fun of me because I don’t remember a ton about my childhood! I can’t pick just one memory but I loved to compete in any sport. One that does come to mind was going to Blue Valley High’s baseball field in the summer with buddies and just playing baseball all day.
