Today we’d like to introduce you to Kierra Flowers.
Hi Kierra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Kierra Flowers I am from Kansas City, Missouri! I could write a book about faith, grace, and hope that God has placed upon my life but I’ll just say THANK YOU instead! Everything may look like a piece of cake but it was definitely long nights, hard work, confusion & let’s not forget where & who I actually wanted to be.
It all started after high school graduation in 2013. I’ve always had excellent grades & graduated number 3 in my class. Picking colleges & receiving scholarships became the norm during my senior year!
However, after my first year at The University of Kansas, I immediately knew “College/Universities are not for everyone” I returned home & decided to do Dental assisting in 2015. After so long I decided that was not for me either! I loved it but something just did not sit right within after graduation & working in the field
I took a break from everything to try and figure out what I really wanted to do & who I really was!
In September of 2019 I started my own business Key2Sleek LLC! Selling a variety of hair products, hot tools, and accessories! This was something I loved!
Providing one of the best edge controls & wax sticks for my city was like a shocker to me! I continuously sold out & was working hard!
I launched my website in October of 2020 and things started to speed up more! With “out of state” orders going out every single day! I was still in shock! Titanium flat irons & wax stick were sold in a beauty supply store called “Beauty Icon” & I’m still appalled by that! A huge shout out to my close friends for keeping me grounded! It was not easy!
However, I still just was not happy! I wanted more, I wanted to do more! I made a final decision that I would stop selling these products!
In March of 2021, I moved to Dallas, Texas & even brought all of the products I had on hand with me! I started promoting in Dallas and literally sold out of everything the first month here! Another shock to me, so why would I want to quit? I was drained from it all & I wanted to be into something that I enjoyed! Not saying I did not enjoy it, but again, that was not for me!
In July of 2021, just a few months into a new state! I started Esthetician school! Let’s talk about it! Another friend and I decided we wanted to start esthetician school right in the middle of summer! I don’t know why we started school right in the middle of Summer knowing we did not want to sit in class on hot summer nights! But we did! It was definitely a struggle and we were pushed to get through those 10 months without stopping!
Fast forwards to now April/May of 2022!
I will now be graduating from one of the Nine “Ogle” campuses in Texas & will be a licensed Esthetician
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was never a smooth road for me! Some things went smoother than the rest but it was never easy! Entrepreneurship is not easy at all! Especially when you are trying to please customers/clients!
I’m always in a constant battle with myself if I should go harder or if I’m doing just fine! I always choose to go harder! That has always been my mindset! Some of my struggles come from overthinking or doubting myself, which is normal!
As an esthetician now I love what I do! Now that I am close to the finish line with school! I might bring back a couple of those hair products my customers are asking about!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Key2Sleek LLC?
Well as everyone knows now, my business started off with hair products, hot tools & accessories!
I am still in the Beauty Industry, but doing something totally different that does not deal with hair!
I provide skin treatments and facials that are designed to promote beautiful, healthy skin. I also specialize in specific treatments, such as waxing, massages, chemical peels and want to perfect my craft with lash extensions & brows
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One thing I will say about networking is, it can happen at any given moment and to stay prepared! Moving to Dallas I noticed I am a walking business, whether it’s wearing a shirt with my logo on it or just having business cards ready to pass out! Everyone supports one another here and I love it!
One of my biggest life lessons are:
Do not worry about friends & family supporting you! Once you start networking a complete stranger will put their trust in you, & help you live up to your goals!
