Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Spinello.
Kay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been meticulous about my own motorcycle. I love to ride, but like my father, after my ride I clean it. As this is something I enjoy and take great pride in, I decided to make more out of it.
I really started Shorty’s as a single mother, in 2023 as a way to generate extra income for my daughter. As the mother to a teenage girl it is important to present a positive image, be a strong role model and maintain self respect. Which is why we choose to wear a little more than the typical bikini bike washes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve had so much support, an overwhelming amount. My biggest challenge I’ve faced is that we don’t wear exposing clothing so we’re not always what is desired. As the newest of several bike wash businesses we are still working to make a name and gain traction in the motorcycle communities.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been trying to focus on not only Shorty’s bike washes (for events), but also full motorcycle detailing & paint correction. Aside from working to gain more clients, I’ve been focusing on my daughter as she prepares for high school.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
My childhood I was always a tomboy. If I wasn’t at my dad’s side helping him I was running with my brother and his friends. I grew up around motorcycles and classic cars, which is why they hold such a special place in my heart. My father aside from being a biker himself, was also a musician. So because of him I had a love for music growing up. My mother is the animal lover, which is where my love for horses was built. With her I would work with and train horses.
