Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Fisher.
Hi Kate, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to esthetician school in 2002, right after high school. I always loved skincare. I moved to Minneapolis to go to the best school I could find. After working for day spas, one in particular for 15 years, I decided it was time to create my own space. I had a vision of what I wanted to create for my clients. I also wanted something close to my house, I love my neighborhood! I’ve been in business for almost one year now and it’s been amazing! My goal was to look back in a year and say, “I’m really glad I did that”. I felt that way even after 3 months. A lot of courage and effort to get started, but it’s been great.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Well, I had been thinking about opening my own business for years and finally found the right space and decided to was time. I signed the lease on Valentine’s Day 2020:/ one month later we were all shut down for covid… I decided to not try to get out of the lease and pull through. I already had my mind made up and had done a lot of prep work already. Opening a new skincare business during a pandemic has not been optimal! I will say business is going very well. Was slow to start but, I’ve gained a lovely group of new clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m more of a holistic esthetician. I work with very natural products. Also, the modalities I focus on are more about nature/gentle ways to keep the skin healthy and youthful. I would say I specialize in natural aging. Most of my clientele is 35+ and that is what they are wanting to focus on, a youthful glow. I see a lot of women who are wanting to avoid more aggressive medical procedures (Botox, fillers) and we can definitely do that. I feel good about what I send my clients home with. They are always happy to see me and love the way they feel when they leave.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Oh, I would say the bad luck would be unintentionally starting a business during covid. I do try to think positively and spin whatever challenges come my way. That’s not always easy, but I try. I feel very fortunate to have an amazing support system of friends and family who help me with soooo many things. My family is not close, so my friends in town have been so supportive.
