Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Sheldon. They and their team shared their story with us below:
It all started at Franklin Smith Elementary School in Blue Springs, MO. Gene Haynes transferred schools and joined Justin Sheldon in class mid-year. Gene was the “new kid,” and Justin had an empty desk next to him where Gene could sit. It was the early 90s, and Gene and Justin’s friendship flourished outside of school with hobbies of learning to ride the unicycle and juggling. Early into our teenage years, we had the opportunity to work for a local jewelry store. In the beginning, we started with simple tasks like cleaning and vacuuming, and as time went on, we learned the trade from other seasoned Jewelers, earning our position on the jewelry bench. After several years, we explored, furthered our education, and had other job opportunities at different jewelry stores, learning how other jewelry stores “do it.”
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
After almost 25 years in the jewelry industry, Gene and Justin made their childhood dream of owning their business together come true. They pulled the trigger and opened up (Two Jewelers) in December 2019, right before the effects of the Coronavirus hit. They were only open for about two months and then were forced to shut down due to the mandates involved with Covid-19. When it was time to reopen, they hit the ground running. Exceeding all expectations, we began to start breaking our goals! We began by doing wholesale jewelry repair for other jewelry stores and offering quick in-house jewelry repair to the public. Today we have a full-service jewelry store offering: Bridal Engagement rings, Natural mined diamonds, Lab-grown diamonds, custom designs, same-day jewelry repairs, and much more. On top of it all, we have big plans for what Two Jewelers will become. We’ve already tripled our size since the day we opened, and every month is better than the last. We are excited to share our passion and hope more people discover us.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It seemed like we had been waiting to open our business in December 2019. We were very worried about how we would pay the bills because we became totally out of work at the time and too new to qualify for any of the free money and loans. The pandemic was a huge struggle, and being first-time business owners at the same time meant that we had to be flexible and determined. The mandatory shutdown took away all the momentum we worked for leading up. We took the time to prepare for when things opened back up and transformed our business model. It gave us time to consider our customers’ needs and how to serve them better.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others? We’ve been impressed with Two Jewelers, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
We specialize in pricing and quality and offer quick turnaround times. We have made a name for ourselves for having excellent customer service and offering a more laid-back experience. Some have said that we are the next generation of jewelers because we are younger than most store owners and have a fresh new approach to the jewelry business.
Some of our services include: Watch repair, Lab Grown Diamond sales, Natural Mined Diamond sales,$5 watch batteries, Engagement Rings, Engraving, Eyeglass Repair, Ring sizing, Chain Repair, Custom Design, stone setting, and much more. We are most proud of our friendships. We are very passionate about the people we meet and our customer relationships. We want to hear your story. We listen, and we care.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best thing about our city is the people; we love the diversity and hospitality. We love this town. Here the seasons change. And traffic isn’t that bad.
