Meet Josh Evans of Lee’s Summit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Evans.

Hi Josh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from Lee’s Summit Sr. High School in 2021. As a freshman in High School, I originally wanted to pursue aviation as my career. With ambitions of becoming a pilot, I graduated High School in three years to accelerate my dream. I went to the university of Central Missouri, majoring in “professional pilot.” I loved the university. However, my passion for aviation slowly diminished. And at the end of my first year in college, I changed my major to marketing. Eventually, putting an end to what I thought was my dream career path. During the last month of summer, I decided to take a real estate course and get my license before school started. I am trying to pinpoint why real estate drew my attention, but I have always been an entrepreneur, and this career path felt right. I passed the real estate exam in mid-September. I interviewed at Reece Nichols in Lee’s Summit. Mike Potchad and Chad Dumas, the brokers at the Lee’s Summit location, welcomed me to their team of agents. While being a full-time real estate agent, I planned on still going to school part-time online. After weeks of consideration, I eventually leaped to put a hold on my college classes and only focus on real estate. I love the job, the people, and the atmosphere in Reece Nichols is unmatched. I have never felt so welcomed into a new environment.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had a lot of challenges on the path that lead me to this point. Making the ultimate decision to quit aviation was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I set myself on this path to become a pilot and kept that as my focus for years. To give up years of work was brutal. The surprising aspect of stopping was how insecure I felt. I was scared. To give up this thing that I not only worked hard for but was setting myself up for a bright future in a great industry, I’m now back to square one.

One other obstacle was passing the realtor’s exam. It is no secret how hard that test is. After I got the green light to take my exam, I studied as if my life depended on it. Every morning, afternoon, and night I work. Eventually, I decided to schedule my exam. After I finished the exam, I walked back into the lobby to receive my results. I did not pass. I missed the National portion by one question and the state by four. Once I got into my car, my first emotion was sadness. I wanted to cry. During that initial sadness and disappointment, I reminded myself that I would not let this derail or interrupt me or my goal. I want to be in real estate. I told myself that this was only a bump in the road and that if I truly wanted to succeed, I needed to be able to endure any setbacks and fight no matter how hard it got. I drove off instead of feeling sad. I was angry and determined to succeed. The second I got home, I scheduled my next test and returned to the drawing board. The unconditional support from my parents is truly overwhelming and humbling. I could not have gotten anywhere without the endless support from my parents, Karen and Brad Evans. If anyone could have the pleasure of knowing my parents, you would truly understand. Their selflessness and support only inspire me to push myself and be the best person I can be. I could genuinely not be more blessed.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a real estate agent Reece Nichols in downtown Lee’s Summit, where I am a Rach the Realtor Group member. My work consists of finding buyers the home they desire and providing sellers with all the tools to list their property and sell successfully.

What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
As you may know, interest rates are very high and keep rising. The interest rates may keep some buyers at bay. However, inventory is still in short supply. Keeping the overall market of the KC metro a strong seller’s market.
